HOT Water

Has Eliot Spitzer been visiting your station lately? Has your PD left for "greener" pastures? Here's a clue...

...program directors were offered and/or received electronic goods such as flat-screen TVs, entertainment systems, laptop computers, PlayStation 2 consoles and games, and portable CD players, as well as flights, hotel stays and car service. Radio stations that participated in the payola schemes include WQHT-FM in New York (Hot 97); WWPR-FM in New York (Power 105); KHTS-FM in San Diego (Channel 933); WRHT-FM in Greenville, North Carolina; WFLY-FM in Albany, New York (Fly 92.3), WWHT-FM in Syracuse, New York (Hot 107.9); and WSSP-FM in Milwaukee (The Beat), among others. In response to one such offer, a program director e-mailed the label, saying, "I'm a (BLEEP) this week, what can I say?"

Enticements and Indictments

It's like Dungeons and Dragons, but with lawyers!

"You're walking down a 10' wide corridor."

"We have our torches out, right? I told you we have our torches out."

"Okay, okay, you've got your torches out. So, you're in the dungeon. The air is filled with the damp, musty smell of a tomb that has been sealed away in the dark for eons."

"And woodsmoke."

"What?"

"And we smell woodsmoke. From the torches."

"Yeah, you smell woodsmoke. Suddenly, you see something move at the edge of the light from your torches! It's a subpoena!"

"A subpoena? What the hell is that?"

"It's like an orc, but wearing a Brook's Brother's suit. It starts to advance towards your party."

"I back up to protect the magic-user and ready my sword! Yo, my comrades! Prepare for battle!"

"Too late! The subpoena gets initiative! And rolls...a natural 20! It's a critical hit!"

"Crap. Uh..I mean...Ipsos Crapsos! By the Gods!"

"Since the subpoena's attack was a critical hit, and it was using it's special seizure attack, it takes all your stuff."

"Everything? Even the Sony DVD player?"

"Everything. Especially the Sony stuff. Suddenly, behind the subpoena you see a shrouded form move forward, it's eyes gleaming with a hellish red glow."

"Get your magic missile ready, guys!"

"It moves into the torchlight and says, "Well, my friends, it appears the jig is up. I am El'ait of Spitzer, and you will bow before me!"

"Never, you fiend! I throw flaming oil at him!"

"Your sword is in one hand and your torch is in the other. How are you going to throw the oil?"

"Okay, I put my sword in my scabbard, grab my oil flask, and yell "We'll never submit!" and throw the oil."

"He smiles and says "Fools! Then you will be destroyed! You have no idea of my power! Bwahahahahahahahahaha! Now you shall feel the wrath of my army! Attorneys, advance!" And with that a horde of attorneys, and even more subpoenas, step out of the shadows."

"Oh, crapsos. We're screwed."

And it's just going to get better, folks. I'd bet that by the time this whole thing is over there's going to be a massive wave of firings and more than a few licensing hearings. Oh, the possibilities! Why, the mind boggles at just who's going to get caught up when the skeletons start popping out of the ground.

Your friend forever,
Biggus Dickus

I saw it coming when Dave Universal and Roger McCrae got whacked... I knew other New York PD's were gonna fall as soon as Spitzer turned his attention to their markets. It's a no-win situation, unfortunately, because Entercom and Infinity were painted as the bad guys for throwing Universal and McCrae under the bus, but now CC, Pamal, and Emmis are gonna get accused of looking the other way in the case of Hot, Fly, and the NYC stations.

Entercom is no innocent player... they cashed in with more than $3000 for 37 spins in one of the e-mails. They didn't bother to name the DJs, the corporation itself apparently was on the check.

Enjoy the fun... some of this stuff is hysterical, and stations should be losing licenses for this:
