Hotel Cable: Pinetop, AZ (4 Feb 2011)

I'm glad to provide (for the first time) my own contribution to the hotel cable melange! From Pinetop, Arizona, in the beautiful White Mountains...

2 - HBO
3 - KTVK
4 - Local access
5 - CBS/KPHO
6 - ABC/KNXV (odd spot)
7 - WGN Am.
8 - KAET
9 - KUTP
10 - Fox/KSAZ (but with an odd resizing issue. Perhaps their equipment can't read the Active Format Descriptor?)
11 - KASW (normally 6 on local cable)
12 - NBC/KPNX
13 - KTAZ/Telemundo
14 - TV Land
15 - A&E
16 - VH1
17 - ABC Family
18 - Animal Planet
19 - Fox News
20 - Food Network
21 - FX
22 - MSNBC
23 - Disney Channel (listed as Cartoon Network)
24 - TNT
25 - HGTV
26 - Lifetime
27 - USA
28 - CSPAN
29 - CSPAN2
30 - QVC
31 - MTV
32 - TLC
33 - Discovery
34 - ESPN
35 - ESPN2
36 - Nickelodeon
37 - TCM
38 - FS Arizona
39 - HLN (erroneously listed as a second CNN by the hotel)
40 - History
41 - CNN
42 - CMT
43 - TBS
44 - CNBC
45 - The Weather Channel (local data. Ob site: Whiteriver, AZ)
47 - TV Guide
48 - HSN
49 - Cartoon Network again?
50 - Syfy
51 - Spike
52 - Travel Channel
53 - AMC
54 - Comedy Central
58 - Local access/Jewelry TV

This is CableOne's Show Low system below 100 (KTVW/Univision is replaced with HBO, however, as I have seen elsewhere). Odd about the missing upper 50s spots and 46.

Verdict: Not bad!

No Tucson stations? The Tucson affiliates used to have translators in the White Mountains.

Tucson stations would be virtual dupes of Phoenix. No need to have 'em.

Except on the occasion when the CBS or Fox stations air a different NFL game on Sunday,
or when the affil in one market preempts a prime show for an infomerical, pay-for-pray,
or similar.

A few scattered shows here and there air at different times (TPIR, Katie, Sunday Today and
MTP come to mind).

Does KNAZ/2 Flagstaff have any historic carriage there, or is it too far away?

Of course, these days, it'd be a moot point with KNAZ getting swallowed into KPNX...

The last two times I was up in the White Mountains (1992 and 1996), KNAZ was not carried by the local cable system. So, I'm guessing that they've never carried KNAZ.

One other thing I noticed, was that they don't carry KAZT-TV Prescott, which airs a number of first-run syndicated programs and recent off-network reruns. But, they historically didn't carry its predecessor, KUSK. Subscribers to DirecTV and Dish up there can get the station.

Actually, Eric, you're right...I'm even more surprised KAZT-nee-KUSK isn't in there somewhere. You'd think the station would push for must carry there.

The people here seem to be a little more into their high school sports. Earlier 58 (access) was airing what looked to be the tail end of a basketball game from Snowflake.

The White Mountains may be part of the Phoenix TV market, but they are a whole other radio beast...the main radio station here is KQAZ "Magic 101.7". There are also different jingles and ads, complete with phone numbers lacking area codes.

That begs the question "Why"!?

It used to be that Tucsonians had more summer homes up there than Phoenix residents, and that the transmitters from the Tucson stations (up on the Catalinas) had a clearer signal to the White Mtns than the Phoenix stations.
