HOTTEST STATION IN PHILLY IS NOW..

The hottest station in Philly is now .... WRFF.

It may not be a the ratings champ but this station literally came out of the toilet.. Spanish format, Sunny, etc.

WMMR & WYSP had the chance to become the rock ratings kings but they blew it with their insistence of being Classic Rock with new rock thrown in. Kids don't like the idea of Classic Rock.. that's their mom and dad's music.. kids want to be independent... at the same time WMGK grabbed the older audience by playing only older rock.

WRFF's format would be a winner at the Southern NJ shore.. Again the rock king there is a station that is more a classic rock station (WZXL).. josh

Reason being... no yakking, just title and artist and new and older great music, plus they get into the audiance, with concerts, special events, you don't have to talk and talk to be great...don't know who gave the suits the idea that a Rock station has to talk, especially in the morning drive, throw sports down your throat, and be testosterone pumped...kudos to WRFF, a good all around station, for urban oriented CC, that is a miracle...BTW the HD-2 is back and sounded great also....

I wonder where they got the idea this would work in Philly?? ... sorry, still bitter.

CC did pull the plug on all it's RFF copycats in other markets.

I think the Baltimore pull was a bit premature, and if Channel 1043 stuck with just Alternative ala 1045 and stopped going after the Classic tunes of 98 Rock they would of done much better....they did go up just before the pull...but CC had other ideas in the Baltimore market....and 1043 was the scapegoat Kanye West anyone.....On Y-100 I thought they were the best and a great station way ahead of their time, BUT RFF has them beat by almost 2.0 shares....and that is with the Y-100 coverage increase...so RFF must be doing something right....CC should try it in the Apple....bet it would be a winner...

1045 has a good signal down there though don't they? So they should at least show up on the ratings. ZXL is horrible. It wouldn't be as bad if they didn't say "everything that rocks", that's deceptive because they don't play any new heavy rock

and WMMR is a great station, I grew up with it and they play all the classics and all the new (with a few exceptions that I have noticed) but my vote goes to lehigh valleys 1071 The Bone, and harrisburgs 1057 The X. They are mostly newer hard rock with a few HEAVY classics an hour

You should give WRFF HD-2 a try....cutting edge New and Old Rock and Alternative...and they do have Jocks...

Id love to give it a try, but I don't have an HD receiver, can i stream it online? Because I know you can stream WSTW Graffiti Radio. I may be able to get WSTW HD-2 with a receiver if I had one, but I'm sure 1045 HD-2 would be no problem if I had a receiver. My other favorite station 1057 The Hawk doesn't have an HD signal that I know of, I could probably get that too, but then again, WSTW and 1057 the hawk are only semi-local stations here, so picking them up may be tricky, but I think it can be done because of how good the regular signals are.

I'll look into the 1045 HD2. How much does an HD receiver go for now days?

In one city?
Channel 104.3 in Baltimore was nothing like Radio 104.5 actually. They had a morning show and were a little more active edged. CC hasn't put out too many WRFF copycats out there actually. Radio 106.7 and Channel 103.1 are still out there.

May be the same logo but two entirely different formats, when Channel 1043 came on board they were a copycat of Radio 1045 but after 6 months they leaned Active, Classic Rock and Chicken Rock, going after 98 Rock which was a big mistake...they were nothing like 1045. When I was in Baltimore this summer I wondered what happened to the music they used to play...it was all over the place and they had this yakking morning show....bottom line 1043 was nothing like 1045....if they stood as they were when first launched they would be a top player....

I think Baltimore's 104.3 was more a copy of DC-101 than of WRFF. Of course, DC-101 itself can be heard in much Baltimore, in addition to 98 Rock.
