House Foundation Ending 12/15

Gerry just announced that 12/15 is the last day for the House Foundation. I guess other details will come out later.

Gerry House last day on WSIX is Decemebr 15

I guess I ma the first one to post it...He announced at 9:45 this morning...I'll now return to lurking mode...

Re: Gerry House last day on WSIX is Decemebr 15

I have not looked at Nashville PPM numbers but I have to wonder if this has something to do with that. It is early (still pre-currency) but the timing is very interesting to me. That is a big hole for WSIX to fill and I don't think Big D and Bubba are the answer. I will miss listening to him online.

Huge loss. I'm told he still resented having the team broken up, and for a while anyway, nobody can replace him. When the station is centered around one personality a lot shifts...knowing how PPM works CC may have found some mechical things to question, but Gerry and this show are not just another radio show. Certain exceptions are allowed when something is big, this long, and with such consistant following suddenly falls under a microscope of PPM's.
That's not it.
I keep wondering why there is so much country radio in Nashville. Sure it's a business based in Nashville and a big tourist thing but seeing sales reports of what sells here a real argument could be made against 3 100,000 FMs doing the same format.

For a city convinced it's creative, radio ain't one of them.

The next era in Nashville radio begins Dec. 16, 2010. The playing field for morning drive has just been leveled.

I would say the "timing" is all about "timing." Gerry's humor can't conform to the slap-stick simple mindset of copycat PPM. Nor should he be expected to. There will not be a level of depth in humor, class and articulation like this in Nashville again, unless, of course, Romer takes over.

yep...sad day for creative radio as we all knew it..gerry and mike,,last of the personality jocks in town...didnt listen much at all..nothing against gerry..dont listen to radio at all...but now..even less of a reason to..best of luck gerry and mike..you can now turn out the lights on the last of the class acts in town........ :'(

Well, if you go purely by the numbers, Gerry has had a rough couple of years compared to the prior success. If you purely look at the rankings, some listeners were obviously going elsewhere and I am sure management was caught between a rock and a hard place. Add budget cutting on top of that and slicing up a morning show to save money and I don't see how anyone in this business could not see this end result was coming. I think it's very telling that Gerry is calling it quits on the one year anniversary of Al and Duncan's removal. It had to be a very long, less than thrilling year. This would make a good case study for whether CC made the best financial decision to save a $100k or lost much more in revenues. I'd hate to be the new morning show arriving after December.

This is sad for local radio. I think Gerry's show was the only thing not voice tracked on 98. I just hope CC doesn't try to replace him with Dumb amd Dumber. They SUCK!!!

I doubt if CC will give up the $ numbers. Why CC never put show on some of their other stations I will never know. The local Nashville content would not matter to the "Country" fan, might even be a plus. Look how many showed up at the old "Fan Fest" and the Opry.

CC hasn't developed any other local talent to take the place of the House Foundation. It's been stated for some time now that when the House Foundation closes down, The Big D and Bubba syndicated show will take its slot. Local radio of this caliber dies with the end of the House Foundation.

You know KDF is loving what's happening. I doubt Crumulus has heard the news yet. This one will be interesting. Somehow, I see this as a "win-win-Crumulus." (WIN) WSIX will figure out a way to re-invigorate themselves, (WIN) KDF will grow and get even better and yeah...(CRUMULUS) will manage to drop 3 points because Gerry left. And RQQ will drop below a 1 again as a bonus.

KDF would do well, in light of this loss, to really push local information and frivolity in the mornings. Now. Because you can't wait until Dec. 16 to do something. I think they should also promote Marty McFly over what's-her-name as host of the morning show, because he is more "local."

Two wildcard moves that would grab a lot of attention if they happened:

1. KDF hires Bohan and teams him with Carl P.

2. SIX decides to scrap the Big D and Bubba plan and moves Woody and Jim over, then brings in someone younger for the River. Both stations benefit from a shot of "youth."
:

Jet & Delta have some good suggestions. Evin if they went back to the Beau Kent days, that would be better than Big D & Bubba. Hell, Rick and Bubba would be better.

"1. KDF hires Bohan and teams him with Carl P"
Interesting thought...but let's do re-tread ourselves to death.
Bring in some fresh talent and see what the future holds.
Bid D and Bubba did not move from Baton Rouge to Nashville NOT to have the shot in mornings when House left.
I think this is pretty much a given.
IMHO

In the end (which will come quickly) Big D & Bubba might seem the best available talent. I hope CC has the stomach to be patient and not panic as whoever replaces House will be compared to Gerry. As the industry watches Big D & B's numbers and if they show a slide it could be misinterpreted and prove to hurt their syndication. Better safe than sorry these days in a business that judges quickly. While following Gerry would be a compliment it's still market size #44 and a misstep here could hurt their chances of moving to a major market like Atlanta or Dallas one day. Better to sit still and let someone else take the fall instead of trying to replace Gerry and hope everybody gives them a chance. 30 years of rock solid results doesn't shake off easily.
