Houston FM in Southwest FL

I was in Cape Coral,FL in the Wal-Mart parking lot on August 27 and picked up KBXX 97.9 from Houston. I was in a rental Buick LeSabre using the stock stereo. I listened for a good 5 minutes before losing it to fade. What I find impressive is that adjacent WTLQ on 97.7 did not blast it out. Maybe it was the hurricane causing some atmospheric craziness, just thought I'd share. 800+ mile FM DX doesn't happen too much for me at home in Ohio ;)
______________

It is very common - only I did it the other way: Florida stations in Houston.

It was pretty regular during the summer. Enough so that if I moved back, I would consider pointing an antenna that direction. Some of the Florida stuff was pretty good compared to Houston stations. But during the winter - nothing.

106.5 must be doing something right - they are a regular in Plano, TX, 280 miles away!

A while back here just south of Austin with my antenna to San antonio I was picking up WUSV US98 San Carlos Park, Florida think that was on 98.5 because I was listening to the beat when it came in. I havnt gotten many skips here lately, down at my place in Lavaca county last late summer I was picking up Jacksonville.

Failure to plan on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on my part.

Hmm...would've figured KOOI/Jacksonville, TX would wreak havoc on you picking up the Houston station.
______________

Actually, they mix in the mornings. But the afternoons are all KOVE.
