How long can News92 try and make a go of it?

Will "the Bull" be a player again?

Is the bullseye getting near for the Arrow?

These are honest questions I have.

What's wrong with the Arrow? I thought they were doing great with their new morning show JC Cochran?

KBXX is in the stratosphere. Gotta think that some Urban variant might be in the future of 93.7.

Cox has two-thirds of the Country audience. Still surprised at how well Country Legends does on a mediocre signal.

The News92 number is a concern, though I don't see a near term flip. But the numbers have to go up or it will be -30- for the news format.

Obviously not.

News 92 will hang around awhile. After all, Radio One's ither two stations are doing well and can help financially. Gospel would do no better.

I feel News 92 is much like the Sports Talk format: numbers might not be high but there's a nice group of clients ready to buy 60s to make the format outsell the numbers like crazy. More than any 6+ rating, it's the revenue that is important in the end. I cannot say they're in the black but if not, I bet they're barely bleeding any red at all even with their expensive operation costs.

I wonder what will happen when Houston has it's next major weather event. Will News 92 reap the benefits?

No doubt News 92FM will benefit from something like a major hurricane hitting the Houston area. Perhaps, this is why News 92FM was made in the first place.

As for 93.7 The Arrow, it is doomed. Either it may have to go through a format change or J.C. Corocan has to go.

Kinda depends on whether they're able to keep it on the air during the storm or not. All the Senior Road Tower stations went off the air during Ike due to a generator failure. That site is much further inland than KROI, and it's built like a brick...well, you know.

Whether it's 93.7 or someone else, the constant numbers for KBXX in both share and it's target demo show that there IS room for another Urban station in Houston.

Radio One would almost certainly simulcast News92 on KMJQ and KBXX during a major hurricane. All three stations transmit from different sites, so unlikely all would be knocked out. Presumably there is backup power at the studio?

And News 92 listeners would go seeking their coverage where the rap station usually is, instead of defaulting to the proven hurricane coverage on 740?

I seriously doubt the average News 92 listener even knows that The Box exists.

The reduced news staff at KTRH would have hell covering a hurricane. This would mean the use of others such as talk show hosts.

Or they could syndicate their hurricane coverage from Premiere.

Ironically Radio One is willing to spend money on freeway billboards for News 92 and not the other 2/3 of its cluster. Majic 102 hasn't had any outdoor billboard advertising in a decade since CC spun it off.

Anyone have an opinion on the Bull?

The name says it all, but I'm biased. You will never convince me that dropping the heritage 100.3 KILT branding and older country songs was the right thing to do. Obviously, since 93Q is pulling farther away from KILT in the ratings, others agree.

When you are consistently the #1 and #2 stations in Houston, such as The Box and Majic are, you don't really need to spend the money to advertise them. People know they are there. Keep in mind, News 92 is a couple of years old, while 97.9 The Box is coming up on 25 years on the air, and Majic is well over 30. There are Houstonians, that still don't know that 92.1 isn't airing gospel music, or for that matter classical.

I think 100.3 has seen its day as a country outlet. The Cox country combo has put a few nails in the coffin over the years. I do like the rebranding on KILT, I think it was long overdue but too little too late. CBS needs to find something else to do with that signal. The last thing I'd want to see there is a simulcast of 610 or 650. A real rock station would be nice

If CBS is gonna make any of there stations a real rock outlet it better be KLOL. Sorry CBS but I think Univision and Liberman got it covered lets at least make it an English station already. Legendary call letters such as these should be in the top 5.
