Houston Is About To Get Another CHR!

According to Radio & Records Houston is about to get a new CHR in the next few days which will be known on the air as Hot 95.7. I suspect it'll either be a Rhythmic leaning CHR/Pop station (along the lines of Channel 93-3 San Diego), or a pure CHR/Pop. The Hot Hits stations in the 80s were known to be very current intensive. KRBE after all is very Adult leaning and conservative in adding new music (thx to Jan Jaffries) yet they're one of the top ranking and top cuming stations in the country. Obviously someone sees the potential to launch another CHR in the market - something Houston hasnt witness since the days of 93Q vs. Power 104 wars.

So far Atlanta has been the only Top 10 market with 2 CHR/Pop stations - Star 94 and Q-100.

I hope this one wont be like doctor_radio's station that leans on stiffs on the Alternative format like Sublime, Duffy, Spoon, Seether, The Bravery, Vampire Weekend, Gnarls Barkley, Flyleaf, Spill Canvas, Kate Nash, MGMT, Dashboard Confessional, etc. and completely ditches the format for 70's and 80's during the noon and "old school" weekends.

Doc's radio station is great! It's a very eclectic CHR, but is probably too broad sounding for a market like Houston that already has so many signals competing against one another.

I agree, I like DOCs station,,,, But this is houston we are talking about, a warm dry climate with lots of Hispanic's, so I suspect it will be a Rhythmic leaning CHR the skews right between KRBE and Party 93.3 to act as a buffer and eat into both stations.

Id be looking at something like WLKT Lexington that plays all the hits, but is very youth and new music intensive. I wouldnt expect alot of Dance at first launch, but maybe after they find their niche in a few weeks or months. The reason I mention Dance is cause Chrles mentioned on the Dance board about the possibility of the new station playing some dance..... I personally have my eye on Party 93.3, they are alot more CHRish than they were on 104.9 when they had the hispanic lean with lots of Harder Edged Album Hip Hop tracks.

Sounds just as I'd expected...like a major market CHR/Pop station!
They're playing Cascada, Jonas Brothers, Sara Bareilles, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, One Republic, and all the big crossover Rhythmic and Hip Hop hits. It's a bit more mainstream sounding then KIIS-FM, but still with an obvious Rhythmic Pop lean :)

Im listening right now, I like what I hear so far. But yeah Chrles, it sounds just like I expected it to as well. They seem to play all the popular Pop Rock, but set aside a little more room for Rhythmic hits just like I thought they would.

Nice to see a little Dance already in rotation, though the Cascada and Miley Cirus, I would be more surprised if they werent playing them songs. I'll listen for about an hour and see how I like them. Their imaging is pretty on par...I like it.

wow, KRBE could be in trouble here - somebody needed to come in and fill that role - website looks good so far and station sounds great ;D

Hey Truth...WE GET IT...WE HAVE BEEN GETTING IT...WE UNDERSTAND...you don't like Doc's radio station. You CLAIM to be a PD at another radio station, but you act like a 12 year old. Grow up, already.

http://www.hothitshouston.com/ is the website and so far it sounds like KIIS-FM, which is very successful in LA.

(My station probably won't work in Houston)

People seem to really like the sound of your station. What is it, and does it have a web address?

Docs stations doesnt stream yet, but he says they will be soon. You should check out Z Rock 107.5 in Pikeville KY,,, its a chr with an Active Rock lean, if you like it, than you will probably like Doc's station.
