Houston Radio

I was disapointed in Houston radio, I was down a few days, I dont like KRBE any more, they sound way to much like Mix 96.5, what happened there? 97.9 is stale, no Texas music, not much on Local news, The only decent channel I liked was Smooth Jazz 95.7 and 93.7 HD-2. What happened here? Everything just went down to nothing.

Cumulus bought KRBE and decided it'd be best.

:(

Even though there is no "Texas music" station. KILT does play it regularly - especially at night with Tom Fontaine and for 5 full hours Sunday night with Leslie T Travis on the Texas Roadhouse.

There is plenty for us to complain about, but since he brought it up, I will still say KILT-FM does it RIGHT. Great personalities, a good blend of country music, even though I was aggravated when they dumped Jim Carola, they still have a tremendous news presence with Robert B. McIntyre (I wish I had his pipes). In a market mired in mediocrity and below par standards, KILT-FM is truly the gold standard. No offense to Tom, but I miss LTT on weeknights. I have to work Sunday nights, and don't get to listen to her anymore. :(

The problem, not only Houston, but many other markets, is a lack of competition. Corporations against Corporations, instead of Stations against Stations. As long as 'most' of the corporate portfolio is maintaining decent numbers to keep the sales brisk, that's all that matters. Unlike in the past, where it was a "Dog Eat Dog" world, when it came to competition, the only ones wearing milk bone underwear these days, are the listeners.

Judging by the station's performance since the sale, I'd say they were right... their already-good numbers have gotten even better. I guess it makes sense since it's a heritage station... there are a ton of 25-34s right now who grew up listening to that station, went away when it got too rhythmic for their aging tastes, and came back when the station shifted because listening to KRBE makes them think they're still hip.

With that theory, it'll be an oldies station in 2025.

New School Rocker:
Oldies 2025. Funky. And funny. Just the thought of the playlist is creepy. Aghhhhhhhh!! So, what's your observation on upcoming competition in the Houston market - come spring book? Full throttle personality radio? All vt all the time? Ipod Nation reigns supreme in top markets everywhere?
Well, back to being a sweet soul sister...anyone got any Funyons?
