HOUSTON ROCKETS LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME

I just read that the Rockets are wanting to find another station to carry their games. What do you think? We're they not happy with KILT 610 or was it the other way around?

You sure about that???

Doing more research on it, it seems that what is happening is the Rockets are looking for a new voice to call their games. Theres not a problem with 610, they just want to replace the announcers. Get your resumes and tapes to the Rockets!

Jim Foley and Gene Peterson both retired at the end of the season. Those guys are legends, to me at least.

Yeah, I am a Spurs fan, but I must admit that they are definitely going to be hard to be replaced. It's difficult enough trying to replace one of them, but both at the same time is a daunting task. And, I don't envy the people that have to fill those shoes. I know I hate listening to the Astros away games now, because Milo Hamilton is only doing the home games. There is a comfort factor involved and Jim & Gene have been doing it for so long, that it's going to be strange next season.

That's the gist of it. It's the comfort level. Gene & Jim are no doubt Houston broadcast legends whether you like them or not. However, IMHO the new Astros voices (Brett Doland and the other guy) are very good. I'm sure the Rockets will find familiar voices or voices that the fans will quickly gravitate to just as the Stros did.

As for looking for a new flagship station, I don't think so. I'm not sure, but their contract is good for several more years. After that the Rockets could have a bidding war for their broadcast rights if the market continues to house 3 to 4 sports station, which I doubt. If 1560 hands around, that is just what they are looking for.

The bidding war wouldn't be so much among individual stations, but rather ownership groups. Clear Channel could offer a deal for any of their AM's, including KTRH (any Astros conflict could be resolved by moving one of the games to another CC property.) Infinity has the current setup. Cumulus could be in the mix, but that would result in the games being on a rimshot, which is the same situation the Mavericks have with KESN in DFW.

Forget KGOW, unless they get that 19kw night signal.
