Houston, We Have A Problem

philly we just got JJZ back too There are two things that I read between the lines about Lee Abrams' departure from XM. One is that he has been about innovation and creativity and when Hugh Panero took over most XM channels moved toward a more conservative music approach - shorter playlists, more repetition and familiary research based. With the merger looming and Sirius execs like Mel Karmazin and former BA programmer Shirley Muldanado set up to be at the helm could it be that he knows that the creative element of XM will be rapidly phased out. Sirius stations already sound dangerously similar to corporate broadcast stations. The other is that Abrams hooking up with Randy Michaels probably means Tribune is going to go beyond the TV and Newspaper biz.
Watercolors always had too much of a Steve Stiles/BA imprint on it as far as not really veering from the traditional approach (soft music, whispery air talent with stripper names..eek, pastel graphics) and I was surprised that Abrams brought in Stiles from BA Bastion WNUA in the first place but at least they don't play Toni Braxton and Phil Collins into the ground. Sirius does so it's in the future for Watercolors or as it merges with that smooth jazz cafe at Sirius. More Sade, anyone???
