Houston's Channel 55 to be Mega TV

Couldn't they have just added Mega as a subchanneL?

I thought KJIB-LP 31 was going to be Mega's house in Houston.

Means that Big 12 basketball is looking for a new home yet again.

Well, you better brush up your High-School Spanish. Whenever KTBU does goes spanish, I think the majority of the shows currently airing may go KUBE-TV, except for Rachael Ray, which might go to 13 or 11' Also, Dr. Phil might return to Houston TV, perhaps on KHOU, because this happens to be Oprah's final season.

Let's hope Me-TV gets to a KUBE sub-channel soon. The wife ain't gonna like not having I Love Lucy in the afternoon on 'Houston's 55', that's for sure. I'll miss McGarrett.

Guess what? whenever I go to KTBU's websitewww.houstons55.com better be careful, that website now takes you to wix.com-and that's one of the signs KTBU-Once owned by Lakewood Church & Joel Osteen Ministries-will become another Spanish-Language Houston TV station.

Perhaps SBS got tired of all the delays in KJIB getting the Channel 31 digital signal on the air. And if you have a shot at a full power stick, you go for it.

Looks like a quick victory for KUBE/57 in the Houston indie wars, with 51 and 55 going Spanish.

Wonder if SBS might have its eye on any radio properties in Houston? The Cumulus rimshots on 97.5 and 103.7 come to mind, although I think the market is at the saturation point for Spanish language radio for the time being.

KUBE has already picked up Rachael Ray and Dr. Phil for the fall. Now that KTBU is going Spanish, there's a chance to pick up some more sports and other programs that could help put ch. 57 on the map.

That's very disappointing to hear about one of my favorite channels. Last I checked, there were enough spanish stations on the air here already, both on tv and the radio!!!

MEGA is in HD, so something would have to give.

Another reason for me to call channels 40-69 the "Spanish band". :p

6 Spanish TV stations in Houston, none of which interest this Hispanic viewer a bit.

Hell, a few days ago my brother and me were discussing what a load of garbage Univision's programming is.

Perhaps it's not your cup of tea, but Univision has made tremendous gains in ratings recently thanks in large part to its programming from Mexico's Televisa networks. The recent finale of the telenovela "Eva Luna" led Univision to a third-place finish that night in the adults 18-49 demo beating CBS, NBC and CW. IIRC-- Univision is the only broadcast network to show growth in ratings, and they're bragging they'll be #1 overall before long.

I hate to bring this up, but could it be correct to assume that the anger in the area over the addition of a new Spanish TV station at the expense of an English-language indie might be caused by an underlying factor, like xenophobia of an anti-Hispanic nature?

And doesn't it seem suspicious that SBS would purchase Channel 55 around the time that it has added a new locally-produced talk show hosted by a long-time Houston TV journalist? Can you explain that?

Occam's razor suggests that people like myself who do not speak or understand Spanish would be saddened that an English language programming choice is being removed from them. No need to be racist for that to be true.

It really doesn't matter if it's going Spanish or not. Channel 55 would have gone the way of channel 51 before it went Spanish... Meaning, loads of infomercials. They couldn't compete, and that's all it is. As long as Me-TV comes to Houston soon as their site states, then it's a nice(very nice) tradeoff. Maybe Channel 55 exec's saw their impending doom once Channel 57(The KUBE) added ME-TV to a sub-channel, and sold off now instead of later, for a better profit. I would have done the same.

I've heard it's never too late to learn a second language. You'll find you'll enjoy the Spanish language shows more when you know what they're saying.
