Houston's KVVV-15 finally gets programming and new subs

Found this yesterday on a rescan. Ch. 15 has lit back up after a brief disappearance last week. No longer running the loop of Harry Pappas @ CSU-Stanislaus, instead airing "The Word Network", which is a religious outfit. Also noted, 15 now has 7 new subchannels to add to the .1. All give contact information for leasing opportunities with the exception of 15.5, which yields a black screen.

Looks like we got more pay for air brokered channels on the way in Houston. Please Lord, let at least one of the subs of 15 air Cozi!!!

I was hoping that The city of Houston would have gotten a MundoFOX station because our city really does have a strong Latino population. Say hola to MundoFOX quince.

If I remember correctly, wasn't KVVV originally ValueVision Home Shopping Network?

The KVVV call has bounced around for years. Originally on the long-defunct Channel 16 in the late 60's.

Speaking of calls, 15.6 has recently lit up with a station that will be geared towards Fort Bend County and specifically Sugar Land. They are using the calls KFTB 15.6. I didn't think they could do that legally. Shouldn't it be 15.6 KVVV-Houston?

I remember this same scenario with 920 way back when. Claimed they were 920 KBTL, when in actuality the calls were as they are now KYST-Texas City. The station was referred to as KBTL at every point except the ID, which was correctly stated as KYST. Seems to me an illegal ID is a horrible way to debut a new station.

Back when KEWS-FM in Dallas started, they did just that. It was called KEWS on the air, even though they still had the legal call letters of KSNN.

In radio we call them "code calls" and they are legal.
Clear Channel's KISS-FM is probably the most common one across the country.
They're considered slogans or branding.
The station must still do it's legal ID with the correct call letters and comunity of license.

When KSNN Sunny 95 changed format to All News the call letters KSNN were used for a matter of weeks until the FCC granted the call letter change to KEWS. I think the KSNN call letters ran for around a week and a half buried in the :55 stop-set.

Re: Houston's KVVV-53 finally gets programming and new subs

on the day when they got it's programming and new subs on KVVV

it has been on this same day, 25 years ago KTMD signs-on

8 years ago KTMD moved it's studios from Westpark Tollway to the North Loop West

KVVV just got it's logo, and it's telephone number 832-539-6674.

I wonder why did KVVV rebrand as channel 15, shouldn't they keep as channel 53, since that’s where the analog is/was.

3ABN is on channels 53:3 & 4 (RF-28:3 & 4)

Why did KVVV choose 3ABN, I thought another station was going to own them.

BTW, on channel 28:5 (RF-40:5), you don't see nothing, you can hear Mustard Pancakes, along with the Ants on the Pants song.
