All of the mentioned stations except for 97.9 are running IBOC. The problem could be co-channel interference. The directional antenna pointed towards Houston would definitely eliminate co-channel interference from a reasonably strong signal. As I previously stated, the Houston signals seem to be normal to the east of town with most crapping out somewhere inside the city of Beaumont on I-10.
