How about 2 format changes for CBS?

I totally agree with you Pratte. And, as some might say, if CBS tries a Jack format, it will fail too.

K Rock did a lot of talk about trying to beat out 'DVE in the ratings, when the reality is their most viable opposition was 105.9 the X. In fact if memory serves correctly, K Rock did better than the X on a few books. Shifting gears to the Bob argument, I doubt there would be a dent, but chipping away a few tenths or so is more than possible for one sole reason, longevity. Bob has only been around for a little over a year which really is not a long enough time to build any type of brand loyalty. A Jack FM on any underachieving FM station can be used effectively to gently chip away a few tenths of a ratings point or so. "DVE has over twenty years of loyal listening, I doubt anyone there panicked about K Rock coming into the picture. I don't think Jack would be brought in to become a ratings juggernaut, it would more or less be brought aboard to serve a specific purpose which it could accomplish.

Format that made the most money even in its last days(out billed KST till the flip)=Top 40

Logical choice for a format flip=Top 40

Burgh radio's lost its vibe..everytime I go back home, just sad

I hear you, so how's Atlanta these days? I am asking the right person that, I think?

Format the used to rule the radio airwaves, and got radio the highest listener percentage since KDKA broadcast the election results of 1920 = scripted comedies and dramas

But those days are gone forever, and they're never coming back. Just like Top 40.

A radio station can't very well program the current Top 40 if the recording industry doesn't really provide new Top 40 product any more.

Here's a radical concept they could try.

1. Ignore anything done in any other market.

2. Forget about what to call the new format.

3. Pick a demographic segment here in Pittsburgh, and do some market research to find out what the people of Pittsburgh that you want to reach want to hear. Determine what would work in Pittsburgh on a Pittsburgh audience by researching in Pittsburgh. Find out what will work in Pittsburgh.

4. Play the music that the research in step 3 indicated would work here.

5. Promote it aggressively.

I realize that's a radical concept. I also realize that they're more likely to simply copy something done in Washington, DC, or San Francisco, which will probably fail here because those places are those places and this place is this place. But, that's how radio works, isn't it?

I'd like to see Mike McVay show up on this board...he's a Pittsburgh guy. I wonder if he has something up his sleeve that's locally-flavored, interesting, entertaining, and saleable.

Hey Ken,
Is Mike Mcvay the one that used to work at magic 97? If so, I thought he
was a great DJ on the station. I wonder if he is still in radio.

You bet he's still in Radio, Todd. That is, if we are indeed talking about the same guy. He's a consultant originally from Uniontown who used to own a bunch of stations in the mid to late 80's. He's since sold them all and is concentrating mainly on his consulting business.

Here's the link to his website...http://www.mcvaymedia.com/. He's one of the few consultants in the country who's actually not a "yes-man" to management.

My fault Ken. I was thinking of Mike Mckay. However, it would be nice for Mike McVay to buy some radio stations in Pittsburgh:)

That would be nice, wouldn't it? Mike's no longer in the radio ownership biz, though. I guess he'd rather not bite the hands that are feeding him, with all the duopoly transactions.
