How about talkin' bout China Grove?

On the Muzak speaker in my office this morning I heard "China Grove" by the Doobie Brothers.

I know it's "down around San Antone", and if I'm ever in that part of TX, what can I find in CG? And how has it changed since 1973 when the Doobies immortalized it? How'd did CG get to be a Doobies song topic?

It's east of SA on IH 10. It has great barbeque.the best anywhere. How has it changed? Like any surburban city it has increased in size with new sub divisions, a walmart...no good... and san Antonio itself has encroached on it's area. Several stories are bounced around How the Doobies wrote China Grove. One was Tom Johnston happened to be on a trip riding his motor cycle and stopped off there. The other was based on a news paper story about the town.

That story may be true, Ray, uh...I mean, Mr. Murrow. After all, didn't you work at the China Grove Wal-Mart after you were let go from KCKL in Mala-cough?

If you ever look for China Grove on I-10 east of San Antonio...you won't find it. You'll be too far north. However, you will find Woman Hollering Creek.

When the Doobie Brothers had a hit with that song, heritage San Antonio rocker KISS (99.5 FM) and their sister AM station KMAC (630 AM) had transmitter sites there...on the north side of Highway 87. Today, KISS FM operates from a different location a little further southeast of San Antonio...closer to Elmendorf. The AM (now KSLR) continues to operate their daytime array at China Grove. They have a differet nighttime site these days, just north of I-10 between San Antonio and Seguin.

And...oh yes...it is, in fact, called "Woman Hollering Creek."

Are you his agent????

Bucky? Nope, sorry. Mr. Ed's agent? That's funny. However, I do have something for Bucky...a Ray Whitworth demo CD. I've been using it to scoop turds out of my kitty's litter box. So, it may be a little worse for the wear.

DUDE.You are so out of it.Desperate, and using other peoples names for your own short comings. It must be the catfish smell spilling out due to being tossed from the ranch and not able to hook up anywhere. You are again ASSuming something and someone and DUDE,you are once again incorrect with your SOURCE.
