How are major sporting events distributed world wide.

I'll focus this mainly on the 4 major tennis championships a year. Does the host broadcaster provide the international feeds or is it one pool feed that everyone agrees upon. For example, ESPN holds the US broadcast rights to the Australian Open, as well as Wimbledon they show every match on ESPN3 and also on DirecTV. They also own the rights to the US Open. Are they considered the host for the US Open and provide the master feeds. Or is there an agreed upon IBC that handles production of everything.

For most major sporting events within the US, there is one domestic feed and one international feed.

For example, in MLB's World Series, FOX runs the production for the United States. And MLB itself runs a separate production which is distributed worldwide. MLB International operates its own commentary, its own truck, and its own satellite uplink. I'm not sure if they share camera crews with FOX or not.

IndyCar is similar, with NBC controlling US rights, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway producing an international broadcast. However, I believe the NBC telecast is aired in Great Britain, where lead IndyCar announcer Leigh Diffey previously worked.

Even abroad, a similar strategy is employed. Formula One has at least 3 feeds, intended for Germany, Britain, and everyone else.

The BoardOp is correct. Regarding your question about who does what with International Sports production; many times alternate language audio will replace the native audio while retaining the original video and nat sound. In some cases the different language play by play and color will be inserted at the event, while if the event is delayed, is inserted during a separate post-production session after the event.
