How are Mornings doing? Danny, Bob etc...

With Danny Bonaduce taking over KZOK and Bob Rivers now doing a year at KJR....who's doing what in the mornings ratings wise?

Bob Rivers ranks top three 25-54 week in and week out. Danny B ranks somewhere between 14th and 20th. Without Bob Rivers KJR-FM would be in trouble. Rivers ranks top three, KJR-FM ranks 14th during the rest of the day in prime demos. The reverse on KZOK. Danny B ranks around 20th, the rest of the day KZOK is top three and number one on weekends.

To be fair, Rivers has been in town for a couple decades, while Danny a few months. Similar story in the Country battle. Johnson and Johnson rank in the bottom 20, Fitz in the top five. New shows may just have a tougher time in PPM. In the female battle KLCK showed some promise, but is fading again as KPLZ stays in the top three. I noticed the KLCK no longer has a morning host. Again, tough for new stations to catch on.

It may still be early but I dont see Danny B. for the long term. Running a morning show where you have a studio full of "hosts" jumping for the mic is tough enough. Regardless of the topic of the moment, Rivers does a good job of keeping the show from sounding like a trainwreck. A good traffic director.
Danny is hard to listen to. Not exactly a radio voice by any stretch but he also has a tendency to bulldog and elbow his way through the morning. Me Me Me Me.. He himself touts his personality as that of being a hothead, very competitive and a tough guy, and that combination sets the tone and is clearly in evidence through out the show..

News remains a big part of morning radio in Seattle. KIRO, KOMO are usually in the top five 6+. KOMO tends to beat KIRO 6+, but that is driven by an older audience. KIRO is much stronger 25-54, but KOMO is also in the top five or six 25-54 in mornings. Both are strong.

How do you size up the morning news competition between KIRO and KOMO?

KOMO is a MUCH BETTER news operation than KIRO.

I don't live in Seattle, but I think KIRO-FM is an excellent news/talk outlet. KIRO-FMs priority is the Puget Sound Area and the station is on top of the issues that affect it. It's better than any news/talker in NYC. WABC is 100% syndicated and WOR doesn't really provide a local alternative. Both are 50 kW blasters and provide very little coverage of the New York area.

Haven't streamed KOMO that much, but the station proves that someone other than CBS can do all-news successfully. :)
