How are we doing so far?

Hello again everyone, I just wanted some input on how our Smooth Jazz playlist is sounding. As you may know, we recently switched over to Smooth Jazz as our primary format and there is still much work to be done in terms of adding tracks and tweaking the sound of the station. You'll only hear about 2-4 vocals at the most in an hour and a few chill music tracks as well as the Smooth Jazz which is the basis. You can listen right now at www.BlufftonConnection.com and give me your opinion of our playlist.

Does it need some Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker? I have been hesitant to put these artists into the playlist because BA is already doing this and that is not what we want to be. You'll also notice an emphasis towards deep Smooth Jazz cuts (which I'm still adding) and new artists.

If you hear a track you like and don't know what is, e-mail or message me on here and I can get the song name/artist to you.

Also, you can listen to my show: "The Chillout Sessions" on demand for free in crystal clear MP3 quality at: http://www.mixcloud.com/donald-isaac/

Thanks for your input everyone!
And if you have been listening on the FM, please let me know where from in NW Ohio.

Have been listening online when I get the chance to listen..so far I enjoy what's being aired so far....last time I listened was when I was on I-75 in October. Hope the legal ID has been finally reduced to the top of the hour where it belongs. That repetitive legal ID became a bit annoying when I first started listening.

Here are some music suggestions for the jazz programming:
(unless some of these artists are already being played)
Diana Krall
Chuck Mangione
John Handy
Earl Klugh
Deodato
Bob James
Buddy Rich Big Band (late 60s and 70s)
Gene Krupa's sessions for MGM/Verve
Issac Hayes' sessions for Atlantic
John Legend
Bonnie Raitt (she has done a few smooth-jazz flavored tunes here and there..same goes for Sheryl Crow.)

Don't know if you venture towards swing on occasions, but if you do may I suggest The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
There is a rare CD floating around the Mejer stores and other stores on occasions...it's released on the LaserLight label:
Muddy Waters Blues Band-featuring Dizzy Gillespie

Another great release is Ella (Fitzgerald) at Duke (Ellington)'s Place re-released on PolyGram under the Verve moniker.

and Ray Charles-Live (on Atlantic)

If you also sometimes venture into blues,The House of Blues Radio Hour would be something I would like to hear once again on the air. Don't know if 104.9 The Eagle (WEGE) in Lima is still airng it or not.

I know you're using older programming software, and that's okay for right now...but when you get the chance to upgrade to something newer may I suggest Station Playlist...it's really easy to operate. 93.5 WRPO uses it for their oldes format and it's practically a no-brainer to use on the air when you have live DJs or board ops who intermittantly "babysit" the on-air studio before a live program.

Great, glad to gar you've been listening! Thank you. Yes, that legal ID issue was just one of many issues that I found when taking over the station. (It IS fixed now!)

As for our music, before I took over the Jazz programming was on an old loop which played the same songs over & over. As you may have heard, we've taken the station to the newer Smooth Jazz format. Some of the artists you mentioned we do have and they are playing but some are more mainstream instead of Smooth Jazz.

I have heard of the House of Blues Weekly Show, I believe WLOQ out of Orlando, FL used to air that on the weekends. I'll look into it but we currently already have some specialty shows on the weekend including: Acoustic Cafe, eTown, Academic Excellence, Generation Next Radio, Chocolate Jazz and The Chillout Sessions.
