How are you using MySpace?

Being late to the whole MySpace thing myself, I was wondering how are the radio guys (dance stations/Mixers) utilizing this tool in their promotional efforts. I see a lot of programmers and mixers on there and was wondering if you feel that internet promotion is helping your numbers and or awareness.

I'm very interested in that site inparticular due to the demos that seem to be on the site. It seems like there are a whole lot of dance fans there that we should all be addressing in our promotional efforts. What are your feelings?

I put up a page to showcase some stuff: www.myspace.com/therhythmofthecity
Playing now is the video for the lead track on our "Dance Party (Like it's 2006)" cd, "Waterman".

Funny you should mention MySpace...

I signed up for an account awhile back, but had completely forgotten about it until my brother-in-law brought up the subject last week. For now, mine's just a simple "about me" page, though I'll probably start posting my XM and iParty mixshow playlists and links to events and whatnot there as well. Might even try to posting links to a mixshow archive of my past shows.

You're right, John - this may very well be an invaluable tool for the dance community should they begin to congregate and share ideas over at the site on a regular basis. I'll admit that I slept on the musical aspect of it at first - I viewed it more as a meeting place for songwriters, guitarists, etc - but I'm starting to see how we can all benefit for using it.

BTW, mine is...

I have a MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/jcroll76 but I really don't use it.
I just never liked the layout and it wasn't as user friendly as livejournal (another service that I'm on but don't really use anymore).
The only advantage I've seen that MySpace has over livejournal is that it has a music section for bands to create pages and post music to.

I'm not that good of a myspace user. I finnally got an acount around two weeks ago, wrote one blog entry, and found the interface to unaccessible. I'm byast because I'm blind though, so my idea of an accessible interface maybe but ugly. lol, It's a great promo tool for artists/dj's/producers/labels. Lots, and I do mean lots, of young people use it.
my misspelled 2 cents.

I signed up a few months back, and admittedly I haven't done much with it, although I do enjoy the blog feature. I don't have a decision on how much benefit it could be from a promotional point, but I'll agree with everyone else that it does seem to have a lot of power and potential to network people who otherwise wouldn't be able to do so. I was a bit surprised to see a few notable dj/producers types on there, such as Eric "Bam Bam" Cea from Chicago, and DJ Hexx aka Demonixxx. A lot of these people already have web portals of their own, but I guess they've found Myspace's features valuable enough to make membership worthwhile.
