How bad will things get at One City Center?

Not only is Citadel cutting vacation time down to two weeks, rumor has it the employees will now have to pay to park! That's probably at least a thousand dollar paycut for most employees. Does this mean poor Herb will have to car pool with Robin now?

No one deserves this. Radio's going from Sam Adams to Schlitz pretty quickly!

Hiccup!

I don't think it's fair to say radio has gone from Sam Adams to Schlitz; I think it's it's fair to say the over all economy has. Heck, compared to GM, Ford and Chrysler RADIO is in much better shape. Despite stock prices and debt levels, the actual operation of radio stations is still, very much, cash flow positive. GM, Ford and Chrysler sure can't say that.

Regarding One City Center...while, if true, each employee is now paying $1,200 out of their pocket to pay to park their car, it in essence saves one employees job. Assume there are 15 or so sale reps, 15 on air people, 10 management/back office operations/promotions/engineering people and you have 40 employees or $48,0000 a year in parking expense. That's one person's + job. The 40 people who are now paying for parking aren't happy, but the one + person who still has a job at $1,200 less would sure as hell be even though they wouldn't have necessarily known it was them that would have gone. God forbid, WBLM starts voice tracking middays...That can't happen!

Adbuyer is On Point...but it IS sad anyone agrees with this (including myself). A sign of the times...damn.

It also helps the bottom line when people get let go. That'll do wonders for your cash flow.

Adbuyer is right on track here. Find that savings and save a job. That is what local management can do.

Poor babies.

That said, the parking thing is total bullshit. Besides, with 2008 technology, why not install the automation on each jocks' personal laptop and let them voicetrack from home?

Doesn't Citadel still own the Old Same Place on outer Warren Avenue? Why not confirm the rumors and move the operation back out there. Hell, its radio. They don't need a high visibility/high rent show place to keep crankin' out the hits. Parking is free, costs go way down, etc. Plus, they'll be right down the street from JJ's operation, making it easy to run over to borrow a cup of editing tape whenever its needed.

I heard Farid who makes $11 million is paying for his parking too. Times are really tough for that poor bastard.
If the big three CEO’s can work for $1.00 than a few radio fat cats should step up to the plate too and forgo bonus while investing in his company. Just proves how self centered they all are.

Fair question but one that could be asked anywhere.

There was a post on the Providence board regarding the Thanksgiving "vacation memo" and a link to a blog by Jerry Del Colliano regarding it. Jerry was the former publisher of Inside Radio and is somewhat of a character. In this blog, he clearly makes no bones regarding his feelings about Citadel CEO Farid Suleman.

As you read his blog, keep this in mind. While the economy has reeked havoc on all broadcasters, the horrific situation that Citadel is in, is in many ways the result of their own actions. Specifically, their purchase of the ABC radio stations. Without going into a financial dissertation as to why, Citadel was absolutely the WRONG type of company to buy these stations, en masse, no more than Saga or Regent would have been the wrong type of company. The Citadel death spiral is self induced, courtesy of its own CEO.

....haha, I remember a few jocks that said that building sank about a inch a yr? Did they ever pave that driveway? That was a bitch to drive on in the winter.

Still, its a damned sight better than the double wide trailer in the middle of nowhere. Actually, it was in Litchfield, which is a couple of miles beyond nowhere. That hill was fun to navigate in the middle of a blizzard.....
