This brings up a question I've wondered for a while:
In the 80s & early 90s, possibly in the 70s too, hot CHR rotations seems to run about 3 hours. My memory says the heavy hitters and the successful "hot hits" stations turned that category over about every 180 - 240 minutes.
Today, or for the past 10 - 15 years, the successful CHRs have turned their power category over every 115 minutes, all the way down to 75 minutes some places, I think! This holds true, as far as I know, for the biggest, brightest and hottest CHRs in the nation.
I accept this, but...
WHY?
Not why do PDs do it; like I said above: apparently it works. My question is, why were 3 hour hot rotations more successful in the 80s, and 90 minute rotations more successful today?
Something, I assume has changed in the listening audience? Has TSL dwindled anyway, so you have to hit them with a handful of familiar hits faster? Does today's music burn out slower?
Obviously something has changed... but what, specifically?
