How 'bout that Vista?

Anybody using it?

More specific, I have a new Dell notebook (came with Vista) that I've been using with Audacity here and there. I would prefer Adobe Audition, but am not willing to put 2.0 on this machine because of some issues I read about.

Adobe Audition 3.0 is supposedly in the works, and that's about all I could find out about that. Tried Sound Forge -- didn't like it -- but it is Vista ready.

So if anybody knows anything about Audition 3.0, or wants to share something about "Vista", HAVE AT IT!

Thanks!

BTW, my opinion on the Vista goes like this: "What is the point of this? Why? Was this really nessessary?"

Your opinion is similar to mine. I found that a lot of my old software, including some from Microsoft, would not run properly on Vista. After a month or so, I returned the computer and got one with XP. I haven't looked back. Dell supplies computers with your choice of XP or Vista. I'll bet there is a reason.

All we know about Audition 3.0 is that it is in development. My instinct tells me that there would be Vista support.

My experience with Vista has been disasterous. Bought a new laptop with Vista preloaded. Wouldn't work with my pro sound card - had to get a new one. Glitched up with Adobe Audition 1.5 - couldn't use it. Wish I could get XP but MS has made Vista so difficult to remove that it destroys your hard drive. Basically, my new laptop is now my husband's new laptop - he doesn't need to do any voicework using it. I'm back to using my old equipment. One other thing - Dell is difficult to use with specific soundcards because they configure everything on "one port" and you'll get endless hardware conflicts.

i bought my new dell the day vista came out. figured i could get dell to give me a good deal on a pc with XP on it. WRONG!!!!!

anyway, the only real issue i had with vista at the time was my soundcard - a lynxone card. it was not compatible with vista - no drivers for vista. lynx had a workaround posted on their site, but i couldn't get it to work at all. so i gave up, sold my soundcard and mackie board and upgraded to an alesis usb board. i've gotta say, i'm very pleased. although i'm running an older version of audition, everything works just fine. though i get a message that pops up everytime i run audition that says it's switching to basic graphics mode cause the pgm is not compatible, or something to that effect. but i've never had a problem with the program itself not working.

then a few weeks later i found out that dell was offering pcs with a choice of XP or vista.

but like i said, i've never had a problem, and i actually like vista. although i hate pc-cillin, which it came with. but that's another story.
