How can RXP benefit from this?

Hopefully RXP will learn that there really isn't room for two stations to play dinosaur rock (people can only take so much Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Doors, etc.)

I, for one, hope they:

1) Focus more on the Alternative side of things perhaps becoming a more focused FNX style station. Sure, they'll play Linkin Park, Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, etc. but also not be afraid of The Hold Steady, MGMT, Airborne Toxic Event while throwing in a few "Alternative classic" type artists such as Depeche Mode, The Police, etc.

2) Have a cool "New music" show that focuses on up-and-coming below the radar bands on Sunday nights

3) Local music show to focus on the hot-bed of indie rock artists in Brooklyn

4) Put on more one-off concerts that bring big NY bands to small venues (similar to what they are doing with The Hold Steady at Irving Plaza)

Thoughts?

1. tired chili peppers songs, the same krock used to play every hour? Cause NYC loves songs about California all day long!!!!

Alt ain't coming back

2. new music show on sunday night?!!! yeah those bring in the numbers.

3. indie hipsters in brooklyn are never going to listen to the radio again! and do you mean bands like Matt and Kim, cause they're awesome, if you're a 20 year old rebelling against melody!!!! and singing on key!!! and musicianship! And I'm sure Vampire Weekend is going to be around forever!! and TV On the Radio's 4th album is going to be the ONE!!! PUH-Lease!! you'd be better off listening to the jackoff that want's Richard Hell and the NY Dolls on the radio. It's like the same suggestion 30 years later.

4. LOVE the Hold Steady, but if they weren't playing Irving, they'd be playing Bowery.

RXP will do NOTHING and hope for the best. Pinfield is going to really hit his stride any day and have a focused break with a beginning a middle an end and a POINT.

Why not at least try it? Remember, there are OTHER people listening to radio than those living in the 5 boroughs. Kids growing up in NJ/CT/LI, etc. like indie rock/alternative music. Maybe THEY will listen too? Oh, forget it. Let's just keep pumping out the classic rock to please the baby boomers...

RXP will do nothing worthwhile as long as Leslie Framm is in the PD's chair and the station is suffocated by the vice grip of clueless consultants.

If Emmis were smart (they're not), they'd flip the station to either a WCCC-like Active Rock format or a DC 101-like Modern Rock format.

I don't know anything about WCCC, but DC101 seriously B-L-OWS.

If you have to model after another alternative look at San Diego's FM 94-9, but come with more production values and stationality than 94-9 offers. They do have a really great list of currents, an amazing respect for gold artists (sometimes with more than just their hits), and a non stuck up attitude.

Not that it matters to anyone, but I think not taking yourself so damn serious on the air with jocks (who doesn't hate a no-it-all?) and the right stationality would connect.

And Leslie would do it right, if Cummings et al would let her.

FM 94/9 isn't a bad station, but is overrated to a degree.

Actually, I think one of the better alternative / modern stations across the country right now is WLUM in Milwaukee.

It's this type of thinking that will kill radio. For "hipsters," it's not the medium, it's the content. They *would* be listening to commercial radio, if commercial radio offered something for them to listen to other than Linkin Park and Californication 27 times a day.

Radio is doing absolutely nothing to bring back the listeners it has lost, and instead is concentrating on just trying to keep the listeners it has. However, it's that approach that led to the aforementioned lost listeners in the first place, and it's an approach that will continue to lose listeners more and more in the future.

RICHARD HELL? ugh...I NEVER said that! ..but Wayne County and Cherry Vanilla would be FABULOUS, darlinG!!

I knew as soon as I saw that the last post to this thread was by "lalumia" that it would include a reference to either Wayne County, New York Dolls, MC5, Vanilla Ice or any other never-was rock outfit...

Is there any way to put a member on ignore?

What about Radio 104.5? WRRV? 94WCYY? or Radio 104.1. I really liked Radio 104.5 when i was down by Philly its a good station they played Green Day, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, all good stuff.

RXP doesn't stand to benefit much from WXRK's demise, because a big chunk of K-Rock's numbers were from Opie and Anthony. Unless Emmis hires O&A, which is about as likely as any station playing Cherry Vanilla or Wayne County.

well, the original 'punk/new wave' WPIX FM played them both, to much better response than the current station on the frequency(back in the days of Mark Simone,Meg Griffen,Jane Hamberger, etc),....
so there, smarty pants....
rock is now pop anyway,so fugedaboudit

I'm not disputing that they were rock bands.

I am only disputing that they are relevant.

They were pretty relevant to those who grew up in the late 70's/early 80's (I think?) that started punk/new wave bands which further paved the way for "alternative"

our pal means that radio wouldn't play them; they stuck to Boston and Journey,and we see where that's gotten them;
mainstream FM , by ignoring the early 70s glam/glitter bands, the late 70s punk bands, and the early 80s postpunk bands (Black Flag, Bad Brains, etc) relegated themselves to nothing to play but the wimp o rama fest which has doomed them to low/no ratings, and ultimate replacement by hard rocking, flame throwing, top o da empire state building top 40, which I myself find much preferable to another Eagles song./.

The other day, RXP played the song "Black Flag" by King's X.

Is that good enough for you?
