HOW CAN THE BAY NOT HAVE A CLASSIC/VARIETY HITS STATION??

I liked 95.7 THE DRIVE back in the day..... coolness all the time.
If you think about it 95.7 has had a great list of formats...

Under Jack in 2006, the station made 16.1 million. Last year, they made $18.5. Those figures are from BIA as published in the NY Daily News. That increase doesn't cover the increased costs in hiring back their staff.
Based on industry estimates, I expect they'll end 2009 back at $16 million if they're lucky.

So, the market is off horribly. And CBS-FM is not up appreciably in sales demos, so there would not be much cause to think they had increased... the question is whether they were able to keep the declines below the market averages.
And, of course, CBS-FM's demos are strongly in the 45-54 cell, which is less desirable on a buy than a station with demos that spread across several cells.

I really can't see why The Bay Area doesn't have a Classic Hits station, Here in Fresno there are 5( not counting the LP KYA tribute station ran by Verne "Chris Edwards" White station),Theres KABX oldies 97.5 which is like the old KFRC, KHIT 107.1 Classic hits which is 60, 70 and some 80s but their main focus is the 70s, and theres KJWL 99.3 which started out as a nostagia station and is now playing more 60s and 70 and some 80s music that is a little softer than KHIT and KABX which plays classic rock like BTO and Kansas and R&B such as Marvin Gaye and Earth ,Wind and Fire, and the 4th is a R&B oldies station MEGA 97.9 that plays R&B from the 50s to the 80s. KJWL 99.3 will still mix in Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond, and theres KOKO 94.3 Killer Oldies the is owned by Art Laboe that is mostly R&B from the 50s and 60s that is fed mostly from LA.
We had JACK-FM 105.9 too, it was changed to KMJ-FM, not because of low rating, they were pretty good, but KMJ wanted to expand on their News-Talk format, which so far has not got the ratings they had with JACK-FM.

I didn't mention before, the reason I don't consider KYAF 94.7 one of the stations because the LP signal in Clovis also on 94.7 is only on the weekends and only goes about 2 or 3 miles from Herndon and Willow, the rest of the time I can't get the Firebaugh signal.
On top of that Fresno has KKBZ ,like which is like the Bone, and the FOX KJFX 95.7 like 98.5 and 103.7 The Band.

The "Nifty 1050" was going for an older demo: adults born during WW2, or even pre-war, who had grown up in the 1950s. But that station was really James Gabbert's personal labor of love, and it tied in with his Dance Party show on TV20 - I don't think it was ever a big winner in the ratings.
