How can you tell if a tropo..or e-skip is directional/Also-Logging software question

I Have bin wondering,I Always notice in tropos or e-skip,you always tend to get Stations From One Specific Location,State Or Possibly Region..im curious how can you tell what way the tropo is going to be before you dx with the http://home.cogeco.ca/~dxinfo/tropo.html page maps,since i live in central nj Its showing a preety good tropo in central NJ And Im trying to figure out the stations will come in from,And Also im curious Is there any AM/SW/FM Logging Software out there?-Thanks!

Its really hard to tell, exactly what region the DX is coming from. Ive asked this question Lots of Times, on lots of DX boards, and i get the same response. If anyone has the answer, feel free to clear us all up.
