How come nobody answers the damn request line anymore

Terry... You know why no one answers the request lines...
everything is voice track... nobody is there...

VOICETRACKING IS RADIO'S BIG DECEPTION.

We are always looking for was to trick people into thinking we are there.

from something as CRUMMY AS SKIPPER'S WEEKEND VT:

"this is for carol in prattville! 3 IN A ROW FROM ARCADIA! thanks for rocking with the skipper and the fox!"

TO A SIMPLE:

THIS IS FOR RHONDA WHO EMAILED ME FROM HER WORK! CANT SAY WHERE SHE WORKS-- SO ITS OK RHONDA-- I'M GONNA HELP YOU OUT NOW WITH A BENNY MARDONES TWOFER!"

ITS ALL A LIE-- LIKE MY FIRST MARRIAGE VOWS!

i am guilty of it -- I AM PROUDLY MAKING A LIVING AT IT---and eventually most stations will be. So you can be pompous and romanticize about the Utopia of Radio's Golden Age, Hire some part-time help, or Get your midday jock to do 2 stations! Doesnt really matter what we think. None of us here own a radio station. *

* BTW -- I know that will get a response because there are several owners/managers who check out this site-- and if you are one of them-- WWW.QUICKSPOTS.NET

I CAN MAKE IT SOUND LIVE! I REALLY CAN!! NO REALLY!

I know, I'll get pounded as usual(I am the victim, you see.) - but I have to say something.

You can't have a SHOW and voice track. You can have a shift, and it'll be fine. SHIFT and SHOW are different. Voice tracking sucks - I have written this on MY board, which was here and it got deleted - but, I have voice tracked before and "I cared more about rolling out of bed and farting" more than I did that voicetracking session in the prod room.

Its faceless. From a business standpoint, hey, great. When you do it, you settle for mediocre radio though.

I listen back to airchecks and I think, there's NO WAY that show would have been that good voicetracked. I like realism. If you voicetrack and go back over it when you make a mistake, eh - boring to me. I would rather have a personality over a voice guy coming out of the speakers anyday.

Mine was not as much a VT point, but an automation one...

I remember back in the day when you lived in the CR except when you had to break out Stairway to Heaven to go to the crapper.... I can still do it before Cecilia is on and done...

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that the listeners just don't matter any more.

Tell me I'm wrong.

Voice Tracking is the death of radio...
every monday after our all request weekend i spend the 1st hour of my show taking calls from people who are upset that no one would answer the phone...
but... that's radio in 2005... one day someone will wake up and figure out we are just pissing off our listeners... or the listeners will give up and just opt for another form of fun... xm anyone... the funny thing is... you can call and make a request with xm.. and they will answer the phone... they might not play it... but they will answer..and that is what most people that call want anyway...someone to joke with for a moment.. and to listen...

however... from the head office... ever see what the payroll looks like to staff 24 hour.... wanna take a cut in pay guys to put people on 24/7?

at least we should have a answering machine or service.

I think the only way some people learn is to figure things out the hard way...
one day the powers that be will get it.... I'd tell them...but they wouldn't listen.

Because management tells us too...... you have to follow orders or lose your job...if you don't do what your told... at some point you get fired.

I did not sleep "in" the news booth... it was on the floor in the CR just this side of the news booth.... a lack of attention to details like that can get all kind of rumors started.
