How cool is that??

From the home page of Radio- Info. com on June 13, 2008:

Steve Newberry is named NAB Radio Board Chairman
As tipped in yesterday's Taylor on Radio-Info, and confirmed in today's edition, Commonwealth Broadcasting's President/CEO will be the NAB Board's new head. He won out over incumbent Russ Withers, of Withers Broadcasting. Also new to the board is First Vice Chair Charles Warfield of Inner City Broadcast Holdings, and Second Vice Chair is CFO Caroline Beasley of Beasley Broadcast Group.

In March of 1979, I had the Saturday morning shift at WAKY. People walking down the 4th street Mall would look in the window as they passed. On this particular day there was this kid kid who stopped and was taking in all in; the pictures on the wall, the furniture in the lobby and, of course, the control room. I did the same thing when the Weird Beard was there and then Dude Walker. So, I unlocked the door and he introduced himself. It was Steve Newberry. He said he wanted to be in radio... looks like he made it!

Congratulations Steve.

All the great stories Steve has told me over the years, and I don't know if I'd heard that one or not. He's a great guy and runs a great group. Its been a great career for me so far, and I owe a great deal of it to him and his mentorship. 2 for 2 in elections this year! Maybe the hat-trick comes in November for the Sate Senate!

...My faith in the NAB is a little more restored in the fact that a real guy who wanted in radio is their leader... Tom, you're the inspiration and the NAB owes you a load of thanks for seeing a kid with a dream in his eyes! ;)

I've had the good fortune of knowing and working with/for Steve for
nearly 17 years.

The radio industry couldn't ask for a better advocate.

Now, we just need to get Steve elected at the NAB chairman. ;)
