How did 30 Rock get 23 nominations?

They can't buy an audience for this show.

How did they buy the nominations?

The show, awful as it is, is funny to insiders I would guess. It's had an unusually long life because 4th-rated NBC really has nothing else to put in there.

A matter of opinion, obviously. I think the show is hilarious, and I'm hardly an "insider." Ratings for the show are mid-pack, nothing worth bragging about, but high enough to ensure its renewal on any network.

Also, 30 Rock is acclaimed by most critics, and that always has influence on what shows are nominated.

I agree, I think it's a hillarious show. Ratings do not equal critical acclaim. We've seen that time and time again.
BTW, I also though Samantha Who on ABC was a very funny, enjoyable show. Unfortunately, it looks like it's been canceled.

The 23 nominations are both the main categories plus the meaningless Creative Arts categories.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are two separate ceremonies: The Creative Arts Awards held on September 12 followed by the big show itself the next night.

It's the Emmys. Unless you work in the business, no one cares. Really.

The award is something to dress up your resume, nothing more.

Well, I think the show is freakin' hilarious and I'm not an "insider" either. And ratings have nothing to do with nominations and critical acclaim. It's too smart for Broadcast television in my humble opinion.

I've never watched the show (CSI fan), and with summer re-runs, now's just as good a time to check it out.
