How did ATN lose nearly all its stations?

There was a time when America's Trucking Network/Truckin' Bozo had a pretty good affiliate base. Now it's down to WLW and KWKH. Meanwhile Midnight Trucking Network still has over 40, with 5 being 50,000 watt nighttimers. I realize Dial Global is its distributor, but there are shows without distributors that have more than just two sticks.

Just a guess: Its political leanings certainly haven't helped matters.

I've heard stuff on the show during the weekends (when Bubba is hosting) that would make Bill O'Reilly blush.

It used to be such a fun show to listen to. Now it's almost always politics and not a good escape.

The perception that truckers listen to 50 kW AM skywave signals is outdated. Most now have Sirius/XM.

Probably the best answer.

Couple dropped out immediately when Bozo was forced to retire.
In addition Art Bell started a good thing that sucked up a lot of affiliates with Coast To Coast AM so that combined with satellite proliferation is likely the whole reason. Personally I preferred Art to George Noory but so far the show is alive and growing to boot. It is a great show for insomniacs and the tin hat with antennae people too.

I'm not saying to which group I fall in with.

"Just wish there was somethinfg that was neither wierd stuff or trucker talk"

And just imagine: Something Live & Local! What a concept!!!

I'd settle for live. Much as I'd like it if WLW would drop the trucker stuff and put on a regular (but maybe a little lighter..like a McConnell 11:00 hour on Fridays), WLW makes revenue on that show because of it being such a specialized audience.

Likely true. Still, Midnight Trucking manages to stay on the radio with a terrestrial-only affiliate base. I don't listen so I don't know how much trucker talk there is.

Perhaps they need to go back to what they were...a unique program playing music you couldn't get on other stations (I mean more than one song per half hour), news, weather and traffic reports across the nation. And use the most entertaining phone calls for...fill. Back off somewhat on the politics and talk about what truckers are seeing and hearing across the nation.

Just a thought.

Stand closer to the window... your reception is fading. :)
