How did KMCQ do?

September PPM out today. KISW, KUOW, KIRO, KRWM and KZOK the top five 6+. No real change in the core adult demos in prime times 6a-7p. KISW number one adults and men. KPLZ number one women and number two adults tied with KZOK. Top five overall 6a-12mid in the prime adult demo in no particular order were KISW, KIRO, KZOK, KPLZ, KUOW. But that is old news. NOW THE BIG QUESTION!!!

Finally, the story everyone wants to know, the story that has taken up pages on radio-info, the key question of the radio decade: HOW DID KMCQ DO? The answer: KMCQ has doubled or tripled its old shares compared to May/June/July and in prime female demos is well ahead of KJR-FM, especially in mid-days and weekends. Not good for KJR-FM. I would say whatever they are doing at KMCQ is working pretty damn well. Not a top ten station, but top five in some key demos and dayparts now.

Can we finally move on?

Exactly. BTW did anyone notice that KPLZ got new jingles a couple months ago? Even a minor update like that on KMCQ seems to generate at least 2 pages of discussion. Oh, and why does Cocamo keep coming up? That's really getting annoying, even though you all are right, it shouldn't be played on oldies stations yet. Although, you aren't going to believe this, I heard Every Day Is a Winding Road on KHTR Pullman a month or so ago. That's 1997!

Sounds like KHTR is pulling what KJR did about 12 years ago, and failed at.  Adding 90s songs to a Classic Hits station makes a station immediately fall out of the "Oldies"/"Classic Hits" territory, and into "Variety Hits" territory (e.g. Jack FM / Bob FM).  Especially when playing Sheryl Crow, who didn't even have a hit in the 60s, 70s, or even the 80s, whereas I could excuse a classic hits station for playing "One" or "This Is Where I Came In" by the Bee Gees, or "Your Wildest Dreams" by the Moody Blues, or even "Kokomo" on a limited basis, or special request.

They almost sound AC sometimes. Here's a partial playlist of what I got recently,
Billy Joel - Sarah Smile
Don Henley - The Boys of Summer
A couple weeks later,
Eagles - Heartache Tonight
Great White - Once Bitten Twice Shy
Cool and the Gang - To Hot
Sheril Crow - Every Day is a Winding Road, I hear All I Wanna Do on some classic hits stations. At times, they seem to sound like a gold-based AC, which I can understand, being as there is no full market AC down there.

Are you KIDDING ME?!? That's a 15-year-old song! Absolutely NO right to be on a classic hits station. I can understand AC of course, and sometimes Jack, but KMCQ? You KNOW you are better than that.

When did Billy Joel do Sara Smile? I always thought that was Hall & Oates.
