How does this work?

I was listening to "The Savage Nation" today. There was a very big storm in Michael's area while he was live, on-air. First he mentioned that the lights had gone out, but continued talking about his subject. Then, in mid-sentence, he was cut off, only to reappear a couple of seconds later talking about a totally different subject. It became obvious that this was a probably an old diatribe from a previous show. After a minute or two, that was cut off and Savage came back on saying that he was back on live. If his studio and/or studio to satellite link was knocked off-line due to the storm, where was the old recording that filled the gap emanating from?

It was plugged in by the Talk Radio Network studios in Bend, Oregon.

While Savage might be from San Francisco, the show is produced by TRN in Oregon.
