How does your silence sensor alert you?

I have a Broadcast Tools ACS 8.2. As you may be aware it has silence sensors and closes a contact when silence is sensed. How have you hooked up your relay to alert you when the silence sensor has been tripped? A flashing light might be useful, but if no one is around, it won't do any good.

I have a couple of these I use for Contact Closures and OPTOs with my NexGen rigs... but generally I use a separate BT SM-III unit for silence detection

However, looking at the manual for the ACS8.2 it seems this is doable. There are relays for this on the Top Row of the right-hand 16-position Connector in the rear (Pins 10-12 are N.O., Com and N.C. for Pgm 1 [respectively] and Pins 13-15 are N.O., Com and N.C. for Pgm 2 [respectively]). The manual says the Closure closes in an alarm state. Try wiring it to the COM and N.C. of whatever Pgm feed you are trying to monitor.

I'm not sure how to adjust it... if it's anything like the SM-III, there are probably dip-switches inside you need to play around with.

Could take a few tries though, and definitely double-check me... I've found that the Broadcast Tools manuals can be a little tricky and often worded very confusingly.

Then just plug it in to a Burk RC or something and have it buzz you if there's an issue. The only big issue I run into is resetting it if no one is around!

Get Pira's free silence sensor.

Can alert you in several different ways. Send a closure through a com port, email, etc... I have it send me and a few others on staff a text message:

In the past I have hooked up the SMIII to a Sine Systems remote control. Same concept as the 8.2, just hook up a wall wart to one of the Sine inputs for it to detect status change and alarm.

Did anyone else notice their little modulation monitor board? I'm sure its not as good as a big fcc certified unit but it sure looks useful for getting things close for the price! The thing I like about it is it utilizes a display for most all the info but will give more info with a computer of course.
