This is the funniest thing I've ever heard. KYKX is running a promo that slams KNUE's "BIG D & Bubba" for being syndicated, claiming that KYKX has a morning show that lives in East Texas.

Now here's the funny part: The syndicated show has an 8.8 share 25-54 to KYKX's 3.6.

Brilliant. In one promo KYKX raises two great questions.

1. If that crappy syndicated show is so bad, why does it have almost 3 times the audience? Perhaps it speaks to the talent level of Danny & Dru.

2. Since KYKX can't beat a syndicated show, why pay the 2 salaries. It's obvoiusly money wasted. Access One would well be better served to syndicate, and cut their losses.

The ratings are pathetic. The mud-slinging is pitiful.

Will the last one out at KYKX please turn off the light?

Typical of a no-talent, nothing happening station like KYKX. The answer to "how dumb?" is "how high is high." It's limitless.
 
"Clueless Dru"and"Dumb Danny"mornings on KYKX.The only east Texas morning show onaline from Sherman to Palestine where elementary put downs are consistent. They know they are bad and defeated when they resort to lying about the competiton,scaring away what little audience their station has and the advertising dollars are going down the drain quicker than draino. Dru Laborde hell's answer to broadcasting.

KYKX had a decent morning show, with Ken Curtis, Diane Day, and Warren Bradley, which had fairly good shares for a long time and was a Longview favorite. Unfortunately, Ken's ego got HUGE. He got into a little trouble. Sunburst ended up making a change there. You can still do a quality live morning show. But not with Danny & Dru.

I will also add that KNUE had a double-digit share when John Moore was doing mornings.

When it's done right, local is the only way to go. But, if the choice is Danny & Dru and the syndicated fare that KNUE is offering, I'd go with KNUE. <P ID="signature">______________

Where is Ken Curtis nowadays? Also read not long ago, T-Bone had died.
How long ago did that happen and what was the cause? East Texas radio has change so much, just like the entire industry.

To put it in layman's terms: Danny & Dru's AM show at KYKX now has an IQ of an 8-ball: always missing the colors, but would much rather settle for the Darkside and lose the whole game. I don't know why these guys are still on the air. I guess I can compare this tactic to the general election 0f 2004 when Dick Cheney would say about John Kerry that "he would do and say anything to get in office." Same with these idiots. They would do and say anything to beat KNUE.

Way to ruin a good station, fellas! You both remind me of NBC and the Fred Silverman years back in the early 80s: the bottom keeps falling out, you're screwing around and ran that legendary station that was once the leader down to Ground Zero! YOU DON'T HEAR KNUE PUT ANYTHING NEGATIVE ON YOU, DO YOU??

Obviously, Dru has no time for such trivialities, he's busy with Danny coming up with more drivel for tomorrow's show. His involvement with the station ends when he leaves the studio after another borrrrring morning show that's live and local--and as interesting as a bowl of cold oatmeal. Give it up, Dru. There's an opening for a chrome plater down at the bumper works.

None are so deaf as those who will not hear. Their benign neglect has turned malignant.

T-Bone was my very best friend. He died January 11, 2002. He had suffered two massive heart attacks that week. I'd traveled to Longview and saw him after the first one and then I had to go to Vegas as two friends of mine were getting married. I got the call when I was in Vegas that he'd suffered a fatal heart attack. Needless to say, it still hurts.

I don't know where Ken is these days. I know he was working at KDVE/KXAL for awhile, but I think that is before he went back to KYKX for awhile. Since leaving KYKX again, I haven't heard where he is now.<P ID="signature">______________

You guys really need to get over this KNUE bashing thing. Who cares, let KYKX do what they are going to do. Dru is a smart guy, Access.1 has had success in other markets... I doubt that they will let anything slip. I think Danny and Dru sound pretty damn good..and yes, they are local. 6am-7pm, big deal about Lia..she is waaaaaaaay better than Andy the Lindale lad..whatever, dude..loose the accent..you sound like your from Arkansas...all 12 teeth. KYKX will rise to the station it was..Just shut up and listen

And everyone knows that Dave Kelly knows good radio when he hears it. You can listen to his show and tell he's a radio genius!

LOL!!! Sounds like a little staffer from KYKX! We must have hurt their feelings. That or he is a young newbie who has never been exposed to real radio programming before.
 
Um Dave, here's a question and a quick observation.

If Danny & Druscilla are so good sounding, why the ratings? Jeez, they're gettting beatin by airport information at 1710am. Same question for Lia, why is she getting the snot ponded out of her?

And it is relevant that the bill themselves as LIVE, LOCAL and REAL. Then they put 10 hours a day of NON live, NON local programming on the air.

Why are we not talking about quality vs. geography? Who cares if they are local, they suck. No show prep, no real humor, and you can tell they don't even read the damn newspaper.

So they're local, so is the goober who mows my lawn, that doesn't mean I want to hear him behind a microphone.

The main point is not whether Lia is better than whoever is own KNUE at night. The fact is KYKX says there LIVE and LOCAL for 10 hours a day THERE NOT I don't consider lying to your listeners a smart thing to do.

And you are entitled to air your opinion, or not--just as is everyone else posting on the board. It's a forum for the airing of ideas and that's what the rest of us are doing by posting--regarding KYKX and myriad other topics. The appropriate action for anyone who doesn't like reading what others say, is simply not to read the viewpoints of the others. It's not likely that everyone else's posts will disappear because of the discontent of another.

Dude...Lay off of what ever you're smoking!!! KYKX sounds like CRAP!!! A heritage radio station is at the mercy of a idiot that knows nothing about programming. This station is HORRIBLE!!!! I'd rather listen to KSYR in Shreveport...Oh wait it's only 6,000 watts, I can't hear it. Ah but even that sounds better then KYKX right now...Oh it's true....Damn True!

Who the hell is bashing KNUE?! We're trashing KYKX. I made the comments that KNUE is vulnerable and they had double digit shares when they were mostly local, instead of the limited local talent that they have now.

Dave, you obviously never heard KYKX when it was at the top of its game, but they were GREAT. They played great music. They had great personalities. They had great imaging. And, their promotions were second-to-none. KYKX was everywhere.

You are entitled to your opinion, just as we are all entitled to ours. A lot of us grew up listening to KYKX and remember how good it used to be. A lot of us are taking it personality that it sounds as crappy as it does now, because it used to be one of the best small market stations in the country (they have the awards to prove it). Now, it is just a tax write off and a prime example of what the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (wide spread group ownership) has done to a lot of small market stations like KYKX. Access-1 has done a great job in Shreveport, and they have done a fairly good job with KOOI, but they don't seem to realize or care that KYKX is mired in a ratings slump and it needs a boost. Either that, or they are letting it go to justify a future format change to all of the loyal KYKX listeners. <P ID="signature">______________
