How easy is it to confuse Ryan Seacrest?

Very.

In two separate interviews regarding his co hosting the New Years show with Dick Clark, the boy-wonder blew the cover of just how ill Mr Clark may be.

to wit: Three weeks ago, upon the release of a photo showing Clark, Seacrest...and whats her name , Seacrest was asked how Mr Clark appeared during the photo shoot. Ol' Ryan blew it by saying he hadn't seen Dick...thus exposing to all that the photo in question was doctored, and Clark never showed for the shoot.

On ET (Entertainment Tonight) 12/29, Seacrest was interviewed outside in ny..and this boy can't handle the cold because he was literally shaking.... He was asked about the rumor that Dick Clark will do his segment from a wheelchair. Ryan said hes seen Dick Clark, and while 'he has his good days and bad days, he doesn't use a wheelchair"....he made a few other references to the show, before concluding his statement with " ..and if Dick Clark gets tired, he ll sit in a wheelchair"

WTF? This is the future of hosts on TV? This is the replacement for the legendary Dick Clark, host and media mogul?

Youve gotta be kidding.....

Im only 46 and I might campaign for someone to broadcast Guy Lombardos Royal Canadians, where ever they may be playing on New Years Eve......

Unfortunately this is the wave of the future. Look at the recent telecast of the soliders in Iraq where they are being told what to say. Does anyone believe Bush or Clinton ever went on TV if they didn't know EXACTLY what questions which would be asked.

But in defense of Mr Seacrest, he isn't known for being a wit. He's a nice looking guy, who people, as a whole, like. Kind of like Dick Clark. Isn't he best known for being a nice guy, who (until recently) didn't age. They are just both hosts of of music type shows. And later in Dick's case game shows.

Dick Clark and those of his ilk set the standard--looks plus ability. That Seacrest "looks good" is all he brings to the table and about the only criterion applied to the suitability of the come lately crowd to succeed the pioneers of show business. Seacrest and others require full time handlers to tell them where to stand, what to say, and when to say it. Indeed, form triumphs over substance once again.

The emporor's new Microphone.

I'm glad you brought this up. This whole thing has been p'ssing me off!
"There's nothing wrong with Dick, pay no attention to that wheelchair he's sitting in, or the fact that his lip drooping 30 degrees and drooling. Wave to the camera Dick! See? He's fine..."

I bet they'll use all kinds of tricks to mask how sick he is, like going to Dick so he can say "Hi," and then cutting back to Clay, oops, I mean, Ryan quickly and then we won't see him for the rest of the night.

Two words: It's over.

This past Sunday's (12/25) St. Petersburg Times had that exact picture on the cover of their TV magazine.

A couple of days later, the Times apologised for the picture, saying that the photo came from a press release, with Dick doctored in from an earlier photo (by ABC, not the Times), with the Times running it without knowing all the facts about the picture.

I believe that this will be the final year that we see Dick Clark in any capacity. My opinion and my opinion only is that younger people aren't too fond of people with disabilities,in wheelchairs, etc. So basically since that most of the audience for the New Year's Eve celebration is of the 18-35 variety, seeing Dick Clark in a wheelchair or with a speech impairment may be a turn-off to those who watch. And it is sad to say that, but it is the truth for the most part.

Dick Clark could be an inspiration for those with disabilities.

I will be glad to see him in any capacity, whether he be in wheelchair or standing with a cane. Whatever. Dick suffered a near fatal stroke. The fact that he is planning to attend this year is good enough for me. He still has the ability to improve from his stroke, 12 months ago. The first 18 months after a stroke are the most crucial. As a stroke survivor myself, I know what he is going through. I honestly never thought I could get back into broadcasting after I suffered my near fatal stroke back in '91. 15 years later, I am doing engineering and running a small FM station. Sure, I cannot do EVERYTHING I used to do prior to my stroke. But, I've gotten most of my speech and motor abilities back, after many years of therapy.

I think the fact that Dick is willing to go on the air is truly amazing. Give him a chance. He could be an inspiration to those of us who suffer from disabilities and his appearance on New Years Eve could be a eye-opener for those who are able-bodied as well.

Sad to say but you may well be right. And one Dick Clark in a wheel chair trumps a whole bus load of Ryan Seacrest types, any day.

I agree with you 1000%! Exactly what you said and then some. I hope that no one makes fun of Dick Clark EVER. He beats Ryan Seacrest,Carson Daly,Clay Aiken, even Regis in class. There will be no one like Dick Clark. He is an instituation to TV from American Bandstand to the $10,000 to $100,000 Pyramids he hosted to all of the Rockin' New Year's Eves he hosted standing in the cold and rain and snow meeting people. He is one of a kind.

Re: You Said It All!! Thanks!!

It's kind of funny how Ryan has "suceeded" 3 major names who all had their own niche and were able to live in harmony with each other. They all hosted music countdowns (and still do, with the exception of Dick for now as his show is being done by a guest host each week)

Casey Kasem
Rick Dees
Dick Clark

Ryan took over Casey's American Top 40, although Casey is still going strong with American Top 20 & American Top 10.

Ryan took over Rick's morning show in KIIS, although Rick is still going with his "Weekly Top 40" program.

Ryan is now going to be taking over for Dick Clark, although Dick will still be in Times Square for the time being.

It's like we are in a transitional phase with all these great guys being phased out for RYAN RYAN RYAN. Don't get me wrong...Ryan has a place in today's media culture. Although I am about as die-hard of a Casey Kasem fan as they come, I believe Ryan is doing a good job with American Top 40, and the show is more suited for today's CHR/Pop radio than Casey's style...and Casey is still able to keep up his style on his other two shows. AT40 will never be the same, but it's not necessarily a bad direction for today's culture.

Ryan is also decent at what he does on American Idol. It's where we all got to know him, and he will always be known as the host of American Idol.

But there is such a thing as "Seacrest Overload." His "On-Air" program flopped in 2004 (which debuted the same week he took over for Casey Kasem on AT40). He is now co-anchoring an E! entertainment news program. It's just Seacrest, Seacrest, Seacrest!

He IS suited for something like New Years Rockin' Eve...but since he is shoved down our throats everywhere we look, I think we may simply be sick of him, so the prospect of him on yet another American institution is just too much.

Re: Dick Clark could be an inspiration for those with disabilities.

Peter George has a unique perspective on this issue (being a stroke survivor), and I agree fully with his comments on this issue.

I have a funny feeling that Dick Clark will surprise us all come New Year's Eve, and for the rest of the weekend, this board will be filled with comments about how great his voice was during the broadcast and how great he looked.

I'd like to see a public-service announcement about stroke featuring both Clark and New England Patriots' star Tedy Bruschi (who himself is a stroke survivor and was able to return to the NFL). Hopefully, they'll get together sometime in the near future to tape such a spot.

And I also think that this won't be Dick Clark's last New Year's Eve on TV, either. I think he'll be doing this at least a couple of more times.

Dick Clark is 76 and has slightly more than 50 years' experience in radio and television.

Ryan Seacrest just turned 31 and has a little more than ten years' experience in radio and television.

Still, Seacrest should be a better on-air presence by being able to co-host three or four "New Year's Rockin' Eves" with Clark (which I think is a very distinct possibility) and observe a master at work, watch what he does, and mesh the best of what he sees in Clark with the best of his own hosting talent.

When you get the chance to work with one of the best in your field, your own ability to do the job often improves thanks to being able to observe and work with the best.

Be careful what you wish for.

I wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the near future, Clay Aiken does a New Year's Eve special, where we'd hear him sing his hit songs in a concert broadcast live from 11:30 P.M. to 12:30 A.M. EST from some casino or another, with someone in Times Square who has considerable appeal to women between 18 and 49 counting down to Midnight.

Guy Lombardo May Be Gone, But The Royal Canadians Are Still Around (Was: Re: How easy is it to confuse Ryan Seacrest?)

Although Lombardo died in 1977 (a couple of months prior to New Year's Eve), his orchestra is still around; it's currently led by Al Pierson. I would think that few, if any, of the musicians who were in the Royal Canadians orchestra at the time of Lombardo's death are still in the band.

Incidentally, the Royal Canadians this year aren't even playing in New York; they're instead peforming at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Were the orchestra to return to live television on New Year's Eve, it would likely have to perform somewhere in New York City; I can't see how a Royal Canadians New Year's Eve show with the band performing in Las Vegas would be much of a draw, even with the obligatory remote segment from Times Square at 12 Midnight EST.

But if they were to perform from somewhere in New York City, that would resume a tradition and draw viewers (but mainly older viewers; I doubt very few people under 50 would tune-in).

Most likely, I think PBS (if they can find an underwriter for it) would be the place such a show would be broadcast.

I am afraid you are right.
However speaking as someone in the 18-35 range, I really never liked these stupid new years eve shows. When home I'd just watch the ball drop on CNN. And frankly Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians would be much better then the new years eve dreck that airs now.<P ID="signature">______________

Dick Clark has always been concerned about his appearance. I seriously doubt he would put himself back on TV if he was going to be in a state where people would criticize him in the public realm. Just a thought.

I third the statement. Ryan Seacrest is a no-talent hack and doesn't deserve to wait tables at an Applebee's in Des Moines, let alone host New Year's Rockin' Eve. There are many more qualified emcees out there; this bag of preening hair gel doesn't even come close to the legend that is Dick Clark.
