So we have these stations now that were playing the 50's/60's stuff and very little 70's morph into 60-70 and flirt with the 80's music. Now we have stations playing nothing pre 65 and going into the 80's.
So, how far do most stations playing the 60's 70's 80's go into the 80's? I have heard more rock sounding stuff on the local "SuperHits" station, KUUL 101.3. John Cougar Mellencamp, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, "Smuggler's Blues", kind of stuff. No Madonna, which for whatever reason is a big draw in this market.
So we have two AC stations in town that play 80's 90's and now. At what point do those stations move out of the 80's? They almost could be said to be splitting the audience really, the little bit older and little bit younger crowd. And with just two radio operators in town, we have a classic rock station, a classic hits station playing a select few 70's songs, 80's and 90's rock sounding, one hot ac with a focus on newer and late 90's, one reguilar ac with a softer side but still more 80's and 90's, plus they still play some 70's dance disco stuff, and then we have that SuperHits station I mentioned earlier. How much splitting of the demographic can you get?
Anyway, just hoping that springs up some morew conversations.
