How is a Six Year+ STA for KVYN Napa possible?

99.3 The Vine has been on an STA since the Atlas Fire over SIX YEARS ago. Can an STA exist in perpetuity, or be renewed an unlimited number of times? Their signal since that time has the power of a bathroom night light. Although its OK in most of the City of Napa, it begins to fade on the north end of town and is very scratchy by the time you reach Yountville, less than five miles away. Heading north on Hwy 29 to St. Helena, its COL, the signal is nonexistent. I've lived in the area for decades, and remember when their signal reached as far south as San Ramon, as far east as Fairfield, and blasted into Vallejo. It's a decent community station (with some really primitive automation) and I enjoyed listening to it sometimes.

If it's an engineering STA, yes, as long as the licensee can either show progress toward restoring operations or that circumstances beyond its control have hindered that progress. It's only silent STAs that are limited to one year. Some of KVYN's extensions have hinted at problems with getting insurance payouts completed.

Whenever I've been in Sonoma the past few years, I've barely been able to get it.

Before the fire, I could get it in Oakland on my most sensitive radios but in mono only. There's now a San Francisco translator for KSFN that would likely block reception at my old location.
