How is it possible??????

I hope most of you are correct in predicting the merger will not happen!
Here is what I do not understand.....Howard Stern is making 500 million dollars for five years. He received 220 million dollars in stock in a shady Sirius deal. He was just paid an 88 million dollar bonus for subscriptions. Opera is getting 55 million dollars.

Where are XM and Sirius getting this kind of money, when they have huge debts and losses?

Any ideas? ???

Thanks,

Stuart

I hope it doesnt happen either but they should merge the talk shows (Stern heard on both,Opie and Anthony on both, etc)

First, I have no sat radio and no dog in the fight. While I think Howard's compensation is more than he is worth, it's not my call. The company thinks it is fair and everthing is properly disclosed. I don't think it's accurate to call it "shady."

If you don't like it, don't get a Sirius radio.

Before Howard came onboard, Sirius had 600,000 subs, now they have over 6 million, while not entirely responsible for all 5 million plus additions, Howard has paid for himself with the increase in subscribers. Now lets talk about Oprah, what did XM get for 50 million? 100,000 subs max? $500,000,000 for 5 million more subs,or $50,000,000 for 100,000.... who is really getting hosed?

AZJoe,
I have to agree with you about the Sirius Subscriptions, the proof is there. I will give Howard credit for one major thing, he has definitely drawn much needed attention to Satellite Radio during his year long "commericial" for Sirius while still on Terrestrial Radio. I wish Sirius would have kept track how many people subscribed just to hear Howard.

A quick note to NE Miss Radio: When I called Howard's Stock Bonus with Sirius shady, I was commenting on the fact that all information was disclosed in various trade sites and papers. Not one word was mentioned about the 220 million dollars in stock if a subscription goal was met. I wonder how the stockholders felt about that one?

I think you said it best when you said "The company thinks it is fair and everything is properly disclosed". (although as already stated, the 220 million in stock was NOT disclosed). ;)

Stuart ???

I might be wrong here, but I was under the impression that the $500 million was not his salary, but a number that went for studio costs, talent costs, budget costs, marketing costs, etc. Granted, still a ton of money, but is it all really going into his personal bank account?

stern gets about 25 million a year as salary, plus the bonus based on sub growth..

he can also obtain some percentage of directly related advertising revenue after hitting another subscriber target .
