How is Morgan Huke doing at WMFO?

How is Morgan Huke doing? Another great guy who has battled the same disease that Little Walter was diagnosed with.

The Volunteers at WMFO have had a very hard time over the years. Morgan Huke is one of the most non-resistant / passive people you will ever meet. A girlfriend of his saw me at Dunkin Donuts in Woburn some years back and we sat and chatted about the horrific treatment Morgan suffered at the hands of the students.

It isn't easy - and many volunteers worked hard to keep that place on the air. In the summer of 1997 the Dean told me he almost shut the entire thing down for student misconduct.

Volunteers GIVE of their time.

Subbing for 13 students and volunteers is a thankless job - especially when year after year that station has made a mockery of FCC rules and regulations. Are they doing any better now? Without Morgan Huke the station would be a total mess. Hope he recovers as Walter did.

Morgan is doing OK now as far as I know. He's been back on the air, and I saw him at a show earlier this year. He seemed healthy and well.

it's just a frightening statement that health issues can emerge from out of nowhere. The industry is not kind regarding them either. I know an executive on the West Coast that recently retired - it was kept hush hush about 15 years ago that he had the same problem Little Walter faced. He would've been "retired" 15 years earlier had this wonderful "industry" knew about his battle/health issues. It's pretty discouraging when you think about that aspect of this "business".

It's not always true that certain health issues always emerge from "nowhere". There are certain things people can do to help prevent certain health problems, or at least to make them less likely to happen. Most people I've known of who unfortunately suffered throat cancer were longtime heavy cigarette smokers, including Little Walter.

I've personally made, and continue to make, many dumb decisions in life, but the smartest one I ever made was back when I was eleven years old and I decided I would never smoke cigarettes.

I heard Morgan on WMFO yesterday afternoon, so he must be doing OK.

There was also interference from a pirate station on adjacent 91.3 playing very loud (overmodulated) Carribean music.

Morgan passed away at 12:30 this morning. His cousin Pam Washington said he had a companion/caretaker with him (I hope they were trained in hospice care!) and that the burial will be private. He will be interred at the Huke family plot in Gloucester. She said it would be best to remember him when listening to great music on a happy, sunny day.
