How is the writer's strike affecting advertising?

This was just a thought I had and haven't seen anything about it, but is the writer's strike affecting national advertising in any way? Do the writers for ads fall under the same contracts as regular series, or are they are under a different contract?

The WGA is actually two guilds East and West. The east guild has affiliation with AFL-CIO

The guilds represent writers of TV, Film and Radio. Adverstising writers, at least the ones I know are not union members.

Of course not all writers are covered. Oddly enough in the old days shows like "Real People," WERE covered with agreements. These shows, to me at least, along with "That's Incredible" etc were just as much reality shows as "American Idol" and the lot which aren't covered.

Also with the HUGE exceptions of "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," "King of the Hill" and "American Dad" TV animation isn't covered either. Most animated films aren't covered either. (Some are if they negotiated seperately)

Looking at this from another angle, you have to wonder if the strike has affected (or will affect) the number of ads and commercials on TV. I'm not sure if it would have such an impact, but companies might be thinking of other methods to try and reach people using methods besides running commercials during all the reruns and crap that is on now. I doubt overall TV viewership has gone down THAT much, but it's still something to ponder.
