How long before the "Rush Radio" branding is pulled?

Yep looks like Rush may have maybe done himself in this time. And before any radio people attack me I want to say that I am generally thought of as someone who would listen to Rush. However in saying that I think his comments and statements were way over a line and he should have to answer to what he said.
Good to see it is the advertisers leaving him and him not getting fired.

This incident seems very different than the "slip of the tongue" that occasionally bites lesser radio personalities. Rush not only attacked this girl (savagely, no pun intended) once but multiple times over three broadcast days. That is more than casual intent. There can be no excuse under the sun for such behavior on public airwaves.

It appears some of his advertisers are taking their own action and that is both deserved and proper. IMHO though this is exactly the type of attack that should not be tolerated on the public airwaves. The FCC should step in and censor Limbaugh with at least a lengthy suspension.

Should the gutless wonders in WashDC fail to do so this time it will invite even more disingenuous language in the future from Rush wannabe's.

How are they going to do that? The FCC doesn't have the authority to suspend or otherwise discipline any broadcast personality. They can fine individual stations and threaten their licenses (which won't happen in this case), but Rush Limbaugh has no more to fear from the FCC than HBO does.

I understand what the status quo is with the FCC. That's why I used "should". There are other ways they can enforce a respectable level of decorum on our radio and TV though and they should take this incident to prove the point. And before someone jumps in and ascribes the "violation" to simply language let me also add that it isn't the language I object to but rather the attack. I sincerely hope that Sandra Fluke finds a lawyer willing to take Limbaugh to task for his public display of tastelessness. The fact that he does it for nothing more than money says all you need to know about him as well.

I understand Rush is a cash cow (although I would personally use another old navy term) for the stations carrying his program so they are between a rock and a hard place. It is interesting to note that not a single station, to my knowledge, has taken any adverse action towards him on this account. And that would include something as simple as a statement that the station does not agree...blah, blah, blah. Something that wouldn't cost them a dime but would set them apart from his hateful discourse.

Does anyone know if Rush Radio 94.5 was off the air Feb. 28 during the morning show?

I went to Concord, just east of Charlotte, and in parts of Concord I can pick up WMUU, a beautiful music station in Greenville, SC. The rest of the time, I end up listening to conservative ranting, unless I change stations, but not that day. All I heard when I wasn't hearing the lush sounds of Mantovani was Movin' 94.5 in Myrtle Beach. Unless that station has dramatically increased its power--and even that wouldn't have much of an effect on Rush Radio--even weather conditions shouldn't have given me that. Even when there was talk, I heard commercials for Myrtle Beach businesses.

Are you kidding? MOOOOOOOOO MOOOOOOOO!!! That's the cash cow, and she's happy cause they are lining up to get on Rush. Everyone's listening now!

He may actually gain listeners, or gawkers for a while, but if the advertisers stay away, which i suspect they will, his fat ass is cooked. (If he can say slut on the radio, surely I can say ass on a forum ;)

It'll stay "The NEW Rush Radio", until they change formats, 5 months or 5 years, it'll always be "new"!

According to the news, Fluke is a 30 year old woman who enrolled at Georgetown to protest the lack of contraceptives for those in universities. All seems premeditated. Not sure how a lawsuit would go in her favor if it is found this was all planned to do exactly what it has done.

I never understood the "Rush Radio" branding to begin with.

It has TANKED in almost every major market they have tried it.

Also talk about putting all your eggs in one basket....say Rush had another health scare and just gave up radio? What the hell were they planning on doing if that happened?

More uber-corporate radio nonsense...I can't wait for the demise of Clear Channel and also Rush for that matter. That's not a political statement by any means either. Talk Radio has been on the conservative leash for too long. They need to broaden their horizons. Talk Radio has so many different avenues if the right people make compelling, local discussions and offer local news. This whole syndicated Rush/Beck/Hannity lineup is the most tired, overplayed, overdone, crap radio.

I would love to see a WPTF or WZTK go 100% Local. Maybe stick in Dave Ramsey somewhere else at night or something (since he pays to be on the radio).

I'm rooting for the demise of Rush. Not for any political reasons but just so radio can get a new face. If people no nothing about talk radio, they categorize the business as "Rush Limbaugh". That needs to change!

CC does not think long term, especially in the Carolinas. The fact that they have turned the "River" branding into teflon in Raleigh is nothing short of a miracle.

Short term goal was to pry Rush away from the incumbent AMs and then watch them die a slow painful death. I believe they've accomplished that and then some.

Rush Radio 95.4 off the air on February 28? While that was certainly possible, my bet would be that you were simply out of range. 94.5 has the worse signal of any Triad-area station since their stick is located in a "bowl" in Eden. Since I've been in this market (early 1983) that station has seen more formats than Rush has seen doses of Oxycontin!

Not possible. I wish that were true since it would mean I could enjoy WMUU more. But every other time I am in the car in the same area, Rush Radio or its predecessors have prevented that about half the time. Movin' 94.5 only showed up briefly.

I always here about the crappy 94.5 signal....

I'm not getting that vibe at all, I get it everywhere....

Maybe my car radio is just really good?

Since CC has such a small staff Rush Radio could have been off the air and nobody heard it! The signal is not the best but it is not that bad. CC did very well with that signal with Hispanic and then made the big more to Rush and cut their revenues by over 50%. Smart move!

Crappy signal on 94.5? I know that signal doesn't reach too far east because of 94.7 in Raleigh, but the signal I'm really disappointed in is the 105.7 signal since CC killed WFMX and moved it to GSO. As for Rush, its tenure in Raleigh was the result of CC-Smoketree (appropriate name for the complex!) killing WRDU twice in three years... they would have done better to remain country than to flip to that "quadruple garbage" (to coin a phrase from WFNZ's QCB) that airs now...

IMO WPTI should have stayed as WGBT in its last format - i.e. Spanish language. IIRC they were pulling decent figures.
