How long before Sirius starts sounding like decent radio?

Yes, Sirius has come a long way since the launch in the realm of audio quality, but I still think it sounds like a 64kbps stream (maybe even less). I need it to sounds "truly" digital before I'll bite.

Think I'm crazy, run the audio into a spec and you'll see tons of artifacts.

I should add, it sounds GREAT on Dish Network. It's the off air "real" Sirius that sounds like crap.<P ID="signature">______________

I gotta agree that SIRIUS sounds better than XM. I had XM for 2 or so years, and just switched to SIRIUS, better stereo distribution and processing.<P ID="signature">______________

And that's the key, processing.

Though I mostly listen to talk/news channels, the bit rate artifacts are MUCH less noticable than the artifacts on XM. XM tries to push "FM-style" bandwidth for their talk channels, but use no processing...so XM spoken word channels sound worse.

(If you listen close enough, you can still hear artifacting on Sirius' news/talk/info channels...but as the OP said, it's kind of like 64kbps online streams.)

Sirius sounds like it's more like over-air stations in terms of processing.

You'd think they'd run just a little AGC to even out the network with the spots... it's annoying.<P ID="signature">______________

Same goes for XM. Their standard satellite fee isn't great quality, but over DirectTV, it's AMAZING! I really wish one of these services could get more bandwidth or come up with a lossless codec.

Wow, I don't a lot of this technical lingo but as an average civilian who just dove into satellite radio I must say the sound on the Sirius music stations sounds a bit compressed.
