How long do you wait before taking a shot?

The topic of, "CHR hits than never made it," got me thinking - how long to you wait before taking a shot on a song that you think might have merit? Assuming, of course, you're in a situation where you can add music on your own, what do you consider? Obviously, does it fit sonically - then what? Other stations playing it? Known artist? Street cred? Sales? Credibility of the label? Gut feeling? Case in point: Lady GaGa and "Just Dance." Unknown artist, first single (I think) ever. Seems like the song was around for months with just scattered airplay, took forever to chart and just inched along for a while. Last week it went Number One and has started to get Hot AC attention. This seems like a CHR hit that might have never happened. What does it take for you to give a song the benefit of the doubt?
