Seriously WWHK/The Hawk is gone forever, 102.3 has reverted to Vox Media pursuant to an FCC order for Nassau to cease operating it under an LMA as reported in several other topic headings. My information is that Vox has 6 months to find a buyer or they could elect to operate 102.3 on the air themselves. After 6 months of silence the FCC could recapture the format.
I know the hawk on 102.3 is gone forever but i mean wouldnt they do anything else with the frequency? I mean I thought it was gonna be classical but that didnt last long.
Does anyone have any news on the 102.3 frequency? It seems like such a waste that in one of the most underserved areas of the country radio-wise that a station would be silent. Couldn't Vox find something to put on 102.3 until they find a buyer?
Even though they can't run it or own it, there's probably still a Nassau purchase and sale contract that gives them the right to assign the P&S for a period of time. After which, Capital Broadcasting (aka VOX) would be free to enter in to a new P&S. There no doubt is some earnest money still on the table. Another fine mess.

I happened to check it today and it's still running the white noise format.
My contacts at Vox tell me they may leave it silent until near the end of the 12 month period due to the economy. That sounds plausible with the way things are now. Hunker down and wait for Spring and the tourists.

No, but the Lakes Region (and NHIS) are. Many people stay in Concord especially for track events.

What would it take to put it back on the air? Not much. They could easily grab a PC with Zararadio, load up some oldies (a format currently lacking in the capital city) and there you have it.... instant radio station. It's only 3000 watts so the electical bill wouldn't be much. If they wait until the end of the silent period and find they cannot operate due to a technical malfunction, they will lose it all. And frankly, having a full-powered FM station go silent in this day and age, is simply a waste.

102.3 doesn't have that great of a signal in the Lakes region, and if it was me I wouldn't build a station around the tourist trade. Aside from bike week and a handful of Nascar races, there isn't all that much going on at NHIS (or whatever they changed the name to this year).
The longer they're off the air, the harder it's gonna be to rebuild an audience.
