How long til CC or some company launches Alternative?

CC just launched 99x in Cleveland. How long til another company launches Alternative or even CC launches one? NYC has no current based rock stations at all

at least not on an in market signal or on a station such as 94.7 FM which is up for sale or on 101.9 but I imagine it would be on 94.7 FM hopefully

Alternative is a good suburban format, so it would be a good fit for 94.7. Merlin might buy it and bring RXP back, they just brought Q101 back on 87.7 in Chicago.

Where did you hear 94.7 WFME was up for sale ? Is it ?

Alternative-- At least the fad Alternative is dead and gone.

There are already 3. Buy an hd radio and hear one for yourself. They are cheap now.

Have fun finding one at your local electronics store. Ask for "HD radio" and have them point you to satellite radios.

I would probably collect more listeners if I did an alt format on CB channel 19.

I don't see anything Clear Channel owns that they'd be willing to flip

Maybe if WWFS continues its slight downward trend, CBS might be willing to flip it to Alternative, especially because NYC doesn't really need 2 Hot ACs

The most obvious possibility though IMO is Merlin flipping WEMP back to straight Alternative - the News format gave them a 0.6 share in the last book

If a frequency became available for a rock station (WFME 94.7?), I wonder whether it would make the most sense to broadcast alternative, AAA, active rock, or some mixture of these.

WWFS can lean towards Modern AC and include more modern rock/alternative titles in their playlist to test out the waters?

Not officially - but the writing is on the wall (or at least this board)... ::)

Family Radio might be in private negotiations with a buyer. Kind of like when we didn't know when WKDN 106.9 was for sale until one day when it was announced Merlin would buy it.

As bad as RXP did, it still performed a hell of a lot better than FM News, and was cheaper to run.

They've sprinkled in songs like the Black Keys' "Lonely Boy" and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie", and I believe they were the first station in New York to play Gotye. Seems like they play more 90's alternative gold than any other station as well. Obviously this won't be enough to appease a diehard Alternative listener, but at least it seems like they're trying to put some of the most popular titles out there without alienating their core audience too much.

Why doesn't Fresh become WNEW-FM again? The call letters are free and they aren't really beating their target Lite (which is #1) plus they've been playing more and more alternative lately. Might as well go all out. Or at least become like those Click stations like the one in Dayton or whatever its called, the hybrid Hot A/C-AAA-Alternative Rock format then switch quietly over to Alternative.

The WNEW call letters are in use in the Washington, DC area on 99.1 FM Bowie, MD (news) and 1580 AM Morningside, MD (talk).

While Fresh will never catch up to LiteFM, it more or less does what it's supposed to do as part of the CBS Radio NY FM cluster, balancing out between 92.3 Now + CBS-FM. They'd better be careful about adding too much alternative, though; they've lost some share(s) over the last 3 months. Could be just an abnormal wobble, or...something else.

I honestly don't get why they lost revenue this time around. To me, it'd make more sense to fill a gap in the market that's not there than to go after the same audience.

Since moving towards Hot AC, they've really seen their ratings improve. They're even beating PLJ 6+. CBS will NOT blow up a success in Fresh for a format they've already dumped in most of their markets (NY included).
