Rick,

I'm thinking it already happened, probably a week ago, while reviewing recordings of the trial runs. None of this was done in a vacuum, without his knowledge or input. Mason appears to be very hands-on and interested in the success of the stations that he is in charge of.

Was there something that you noticed in comparing both stations, as far as the music and presentation?

Yes, it sounds to me that CBS FM is doing it right. www.wcbsfm.com listen for a while. There is a BIG difference.

I'll have to check it out. What are you hearing as the biggest difference at this point?

One difference is they seem to have gotten up and running faster...made a bigger splash out of the gate. Not as much of this "switch the format and then we'll figure out what we're doing."

Still not the full blown we're ready to roll but a bit better. Kind of like a restraunt opening before knowing what the menu would be or with no waiters. Could you imagine a new McDonald's opening with a notice on the menu board saying "we'll have meat on your sandwich sometime in the future...but here try the bun for now.

Bravo to WCBS for there presentation from day # 1, they were ready and rolled it out very smooth. The music sounds great aswell as the Jocks, jingles and aswell as some creative sound bites.

I'm really enjoying all the commerical free music on KFRC for the last couple of hours. And the John Mack promo for the beatles show in the morning sounds great! KFRC is mostly the 70's and it sounds great too!

Keep in mind that WCBS was running their oldies format on their HD-2 channel, so they already had music in place, they only needed to add live jocks & such to get going. Oddly, I believe the WCBS PD Brian Thomas used to program 99.7 KFRC.
