How long will the XFL Survive

And just like that, the XFL is dead.
https://www.cbssports.com/xfl/news/...league-to-suspend-play-effective-immediately/
The XFL has suspended play immediately. The news comes towards the end of a hectic day -- and not just for sports, but for the entire globe. According to a statement from the league, all players will be paid their base pay and benefits through the regular season. Meanwhile, all XFL ticket holders will be issued refunds or credit towards future games. The league does plan to come back to play a full season in 2021 and beyond.
They say they will be back but I would not bet on it.

Nope, NASCAR is still a go (at least in Atlanta) but no spectators allowed.

not anymore it ain't, they have also joined the "stop the spread of the outbreak" suspension list. I think it's safe to say we are heading for a full lock down like Italy is in now until May.

Update the main WWE is facing postponement due to COVID-19.

WWE announced Thursday that is preparing contingency plans for WrestleMania 36 -- set for Sunday, April 5 in Tampa, Florida -- but remains committed to hosting the event at Raymond James Stadium amid concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

"While we remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that it is cancelled by government officials, civil authorities and/or local venues," the company said in a statement. "The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay."

The Tampa area has witnessed confirmed cases of coronavirus among individuals, and both state and city officials have taken measures to limit large gatherings. However, as of now, WrestleMania is still on. The city of Tampa has put a decision on whether to postpone or cancel the event in the hands of WWE at this time.

A world without sports. Hard to believe. But to stop this virus we may need to quarantine nationally if it gets to that point.

A quick look at YouTube Sports found live feeds of pool from Las Vegas, horse racing and women's basketball from Brazil, rugby from Fiji, cricket from Guyana, four men's basketball games from empty arenas in (I think) Uruguay, an equestrian event from some unknown location, a drag racing event billed as the St. Patrick's Classic from another unknown location, more cricket from New Zealand, and two high school baseball games -- Westminster Christian vs. Florida Christian and Huntsville (Ala.) High vs. an unnamed opponent. Several other high school games and one community college game (Laney College vs. Solano Community College, from California) aired earlier in the day and have been archived. So there's still sports going on out there. ESPN+ has soccer from Australia and India still on its schedule for Saturday. I believe there's a UFC card in Brasilia on Sunday that's also still a go. Brazil is either largely unaffected by the virus or the Bolsonaro government is making a populist point with its right-wing base by ignoring it.

Also, earlier tonight, airing on YouTube was a live show from an indie outfit called ProSouth Wrestling. The building was empty, but the "heels" were still going through with their crowd-taunting routines to the delight of the fans posting to the YouTube chat accompanying the show.

Solano Community College now that college (Halfway from Sacramento and San Francisco) has now announced that classes will move online to meet the state of Emergency orders to reduce crowds above 250 people. That College is closest to Travis Air Force Base the quarantine facility that now getting the blame over the handling of COVID-19 in California.

Looks like the XFL is dead, for now at least. The league has suspended all activities and fired employees.

With no cure or vaccine yet, and 2021 being the most optimistic target for the development, approval and distribution of one, that's a logical course of action. It's difficult right now to imagine large gatherings in football stadiums being something most Americans would be comfortable with by next February. The XFL might as well cut its losses here and think about February 2022 once the actual course of the pandemic plays out.

And the league is dead,
https://www.espn.com/xfl/story/_/id/29030763/xfl-files-chapter-11-bankruptcy-suspending-operations
The XFL's parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday, the first business day after the league suspended operations and laid off almost all of its employees.

The filing, officially made by Alpha Entertainment, listed the XFL with assets and liabilities each in the range of $10 million to $50 million. The largest creditor was listed as the St. Louis Sports Commission at $1.6 million. Seven of the league's eight coaches also are among the top creditors.

So from the time this thread was created until today... two months, five days.

But the XFL only played for a month, Feb. 8th-Mar. 8th before suspending play.
For a perspective, the AAF from last year survived even longer... Feb. 9th-Mar. 31st before shutting down.

The XFL, once again... we hardly knew ye. Goodbye. End of thread now.
