How low can ELECTRIC go?

Anyone see the Tri-cities ratings? Electric down to 3.8 which raises the question, how long can this go on? Also, runor has it that WRZK may go country soon. Anyone know if there is any truth to the rumor?

As soon as Hot has some time as a more mainstream CHR, we might have to start calling Electric "Battery 94.9"

When Electric (at 100K) falls below 'GOC (at 10K), there are some serious problems. I think a serious facelift is in order for Electric or else it's gonna get alot worse.

As far as 'RZK going country, Glenwood would have to fork over the scratch just to compete with 'XBQ. Pete's not gonna roll over and play dead just because someone else went country. He'll do whatever it takes to remain number one. And besides, the only selling point for 'RZK would be the translator at 97-7. Or would they put HOT on the translator? Who knows?

No, but

This is the Tri-Cities, Tennessee area, and I'm not getting a whole lot of love for pop music from its inhabitants.

A new country station would certainly make things interesting in a market that has been stagnant for far too long.

And if a 10K AM station with a country format is outdoing 100K FM Electric than that is all you have to know about where the public's tastes lie.

PETE is freaking out trying to get ELECTRIC "HOT" AGAIN..WHAT IS GOING ON OVER THERE AND ARE THEY SCARED??

Watch OUT FOR A COUNTRY STATION COMING TO TRI-CITIES SOON THAT WILL MAKE THE RABBITT ....STEW!!!!
Edited by gooberj on 02/03/06 03:14 AM.

Is it time?

Radioland Ladies & Gentlemen,
Any chance Pete would go with another PD?
Just curious...as my station just flipped to sports and
I'm ready to get back into the music market.(Don't you
mean "FORCED" to get back into music there 'doc?...no,
if there was a news talk format in the Tri-Cities that
could be considered formidable then maybe.)
But anyway, with 15 years under my belt, I'm pretty sure
they couldn't do much worse than where they are now.
I really thought Gary would bring the place back to where
it was when it hit the air in '97.
I know a jock or two on the air over there,
(yeah and?) does anyone think that it's time for a fresh
outlook on things or is Pete fairly solid with the personnel
he has now?
Anyone who would like to comment, please do. I think I
could get things back on track, but I don't know how much
hand tying Pete does now.
Ginger needs to stay, she has her act together if someone
can bounce off of her (please no jokes, it's too easy).
So, can Electric be recharged?
I'd love some positive feedback...simply because the puns
are too numerous to mention.
Thanks,
The Spindoctor

Re: Is it time?

It's obvious that nobody's listening in the metro...just look at the ratings. But you know what amazes me? Just how often you hear it here in the Tri-State area. (Bell County, KY; Lee County, VA; and Claiborne County, TN). For example, I was in the grocery store in Tazewell tonight, and they were playing Electric over the speakers. You hear it a whole lot in businesses around here, especially where they can't get my little AC station. You can hear 102.1 here from Knoxville, but Electric has a stronger signal.

Also, in a market the size of the Tri-Cities, fifth place ain't so bad. Especially in a market where the #1 station pulls a 20% share. I'd venture to say it's not doing too bad financially. And, if the money is right, who cares about little burps in the book? They aren't as low now as they have been, but aren't as high either. Seems like it's just cyclical. You can drive yourself crazy constantly tweaking a format. And oftentimes, those tweaks don't make a difference either financially or in the ratings. It's kinda like chasing your tail. Then again, that's why I don't play the rated-market game. I'm quite content pretending Arbitron doesn't exist :)

I know Spindoctor will kill me, and some of you will make fun of me, but I don't think Electric sounds so bad. I've certainly heard worse.

Here's a question

How does Electric do in the TSA?
______________
The radio business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.
