How low can you go?

Okay.... I know they are only 12+ numbers but....

In San Antonio, KTSA is lower than KSTX, the NPR affiliate.

KTSA = 1.4 with a cume of 97,500
KSTX = 1.5 with a cume of 104,600

I'm sure when you look at the breakouts, KTSA is better in the 35+ demo.

Also, I'm sure KTSA is doing MUCH better in sales, so I don't expect a blowup, but it has to be increasingly difficult for the BMP sales team to sell on talent alone.

Don't diss a station just because it's NPR. Wait until Austin's PPMs are revealed showing non-comms. I'm pretty sure KUT will be among the top stations overall.

What is it about KTSA? I like a lot of what they are doing. Pags is good at OAI, but I rarely listen to much else over there. What gives?

Trey is a great morning personality.

I think KTSA needs some spark, a much better voice of the station guy, and better Imaging.

KTSA is in a tough spot.

They can ditch the talent they have... but who would they replace them with? c-level syndiacted stuff? It'd be cheaper but it's impossible to sell. At least with local talent, they can have that connection with advertisers. I'm sure KTSA can sell.

If they keep the talent, will they eek above a 1.5 12+? Like I said, we can only see the 12+ numbers. I'm sure at 35+ they're better.

At this rating, how long will even the budget clients stick around?

And, as for a new voice... will that bring any new lsitneers? How often have you heard a station and said... "wow! that's a great liner! i'll keep listening!" A solid voice will keep a great station sounding fresh, but i doubt it does much for new listeners, which is what KTSA needs to get their 12+ numbers up.

The only alternative to their current programming that might be worth investigating is running some sort of agricultural network? IT would be an easy sell and might get the same 12+ numbers.

The entire BMP cluster from San Antonio to Austin is all screwed up. On the positive side, the entire cluster is for sale so there's hope someone will manage these stations to their fullest potential.

San Antonio-
KJXK
KSAH
KLEY
are the only stations with positive numbers.

Austin-

Bunny...

I disagree somewhat.

The right Imaging can get people whom just check in every now and again...excited about the station again.

They need to position themselves and sound like they own the market for news and talk!

I think fresh imaging is a must for any station to win. Even an older format like talk.

WOAI needs some spark also, but they do change up the imaging more often, just not strong enough image for my taste.

KTSA SHOULD BE very agressive with Imaging...all the way around.

Content is king, but if it is not marketed in a bright shiny package, no one will know.

Maybe you're on to it... but in a different way.
WOAI has billboards all over town. KTSA has none.

If there is money to spend, BMP should pump it into outdoor. The problem? Are they happy with the current siuation and don't think outdoor will bring a roi. spend big bucks on billboards, but will that translate to more ad buyers?

Does CC provide the billboards to its stations gratis or do the stations have to pay the billboard subsidiary for their use?

I agree with the billboards...I disagree (even in today's economy) that you must be able to prove 2 cents back for every penny spent.

TOP OF MIND

still counts.

Too many bean counters spoil radio...this way.

It is an art as well as a business.

It is always a business and always has been a business.
Every single decision should be.... will this make money. If you're not making money, who do it?

This is not a non-profit. It's show-BUSINESS.

As for the billboards... I remember reading an article a while ago that talked about CC-Outdoor is a seperate company, so I doubt they would do anything for free.
