How low?

Listening to Jackie & Bender on 106.1 this morning. Topic: When & how did you lose your virginity? One lady was statutorily raped and J&B's sidekick (name unknown) says "Sweet...." He then goes on to tell how he lost his virginity at age 13 while drunk....to some 15 y.o. girl who then did his buddy, too.

My teenage daughter likes KISS....hopefully for the music. Where do they find these "air personalities" to talk about their aberrant and sometimes illegal behavior? Trust me, I'm no prude, but this turned my stomach. Enuf already..........

You can't say a few words on the radio, but you can cover many topics about each one of them..

This may be why KBKS has such low numbers for a CHR :-\ DA WOLF, KCMS and older stations like WARM and STAR have personalities that refrain from this kind of talk to appeal to families and it is working :) Ryan Seacrest is the top rated CHR talent in America and J@B might want to learn from him or Kidd Kraddick in Dallas. I wonder if KISS may be thinking about taking a syndicated program like these. Can't do worse in the ratings :p

I can see Bob Rivers & Crew doing this topic, but with a little sensitivity. I don't listen to J & B. Maybe this is why. Too sophomoric (or sopho-moronic). That's the risk you take with young on air talent.

Like I suggested in my earlier post, why take just a nanosecond to say the f-bomb when you can talk about it descriptively ALL MORNING!

American radio is strange. In Europe and Australia, they aren't banned from using expletives on the radio. They just use them occasionally and find other topics. Makes for better, more mature radio......

Recently, SF talk show host Karel was fired off KGO for saying in reference to "Joe The Plumber" (referring to the fictional character for political purposes, as we all know now - not to offend any actual plumbers named Joe reading this.) "F GD Joe The GD MFing Plumber....I want MFing Joe The Plumber DEAD!" during an ABC top hour news break. His board op left the mike on, unbeknownst to Karel.

I wouldn't have fired Karel for that. It was potentially a $975,000 accident ($325,000 for each f and mf-bomb. The GD's are still safe, offensive to some, but still safe...for now.) and the board op would have been out, but not Karel.

Yes, instinctively, you are supposed to go into a studio with all those words at least checked at the door. But overall, this guy did have a cool sense of humor under his, um, fabulous persona. And to be honest at that very moment, he called it like it is. We all thought the same way about "Joe The Plumber" because we were ALL so SICK of hearing about "him" in those final days up to the election and damn, the dude just totally said it. What we ALL wanted to say! It was the most HONEST radio I have heard in YEARS (and yes, I WAS actually listening to KGO in my truck picking up some Jack In The Box drive thru when he said that. I'll always remember it because even the girl at the window jerked her head back when Karel said that and said, quote, "Did your radio station just say that!" I said "Yeah" and then she asked "What channel is it?"......) I would have posted it up here on this board earlier, but i had to find a halfway relevant local topic to thread this into.

And the little kids are in bed when Karel was on. Church ladies were listening to KFAX, Only progressive folks and a few right-wing muckrakers were tuning in. Hear it here:

(Yes, I know Karel's voice doesn't exactly match the rest of him - I would NOT want to debate the subtleties of chartreuse with this dude in a dark alley....)

So tell me this; what's more obscene? Joking at length to random people in the morning how they lost their virginity (including those by forcible rape to those who never did at all), or taking an UBER non-topic and giving it the public verbal ass whipping it deserved late at night. "To hell with the Joe The Plumber metaphor, what about ME?" was what was on the rest of our minds. (That alone probably costed McCain....)

My kids like KBKS, but they're very young. But so much for them to do, so little time in the morning. So they didn't hear it. If I was in the kitchen hearing that with my kids there, I'd have zapped it to Morning Edition on KPLU and that would have been the end of it.

i know KBKS is trying to hip up to teenagers who are fans of T-Man, but really! I'm not a prude, but there are still things LITTLE kids shouldn't hear about on a mainstream Top 40 station while getting ready for school. Maybe on the stoner rock station, the gangsta rap station or the guy-talk yakker, something that doesn't play The Jonas Brothers.....
