How many CHR stations operating as "Channel?"

How many stations have adopted this new CHR "Channel" name? I know of Channel 93.3 - San Diego, Channel 95.5 -Detroit, Channel 96.3 - Witchita, Channel 94.5 - Dayton... are there anymore CHR stations that have adopted the name "CHANNEL?"

Those are the only ones I know of right off. In the case of Dayton and Detroit, those two stations were rebranded as Channel. Dayton was a Kiss station and Detroit's Channel was previously known as Q95-5 (but kept the WKQI calls). The Wichita station was long-time CHR KKRD, but was moved to a different frequency and given a new set of calls (KZCH).Since Clear Channel has not launched any new or rebranded CHRs recently that I know of, I wonder if they have abandoned the Kiss name for Channel for new stations.

That leads me to wonder... how many of those stations lean very heavily rhythmic? 955 in Detroit does. Could it be that they're reserving "Channel" for mainstream/rhythmic hybrids?

nope CC has not abandoned the KISS name. i thought the same thing, however in Sioux City, Iowa, they have just launched a KISSFM on 107.1 what about 1-2 weeks ago. besides, if they wanted to launch another KISS in a market, where theres already a non CC Kiss station, you can bet CC will send a Cease to desist letter

I never listened to the one in Wichita, but I am looking their playlist on yes.com and it looks somewhat mainstream, perhaps with a slight rhythmic lean. That would be something similar to Channel 933 in San Diego. When I flew to Michigan six months ago, I managed to catch a little of Channel 945 in Dayton and they sounded mainstream too. One thing that's interesting about Channel in Wichita is that right now, they're playing retro songs all weekend long.

They're only doing it for Memorial Day Weekend. I listened all day yesterday on their listen live link on their site.. and they were running liners saying "Something Very Different is Coming at 5PM" and at 5pm their major announcement was "WELCOME TO MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.. THIS WEEKEND, ALL REQUEST FROM BACK IN THE DAY"

I think you may be right about that. CHANNEL 945 in Dayton is a Rhythmic leaning station.

I can't speak for other "Channel" stations, but the "they" that you refer to doesn't exist. The idea to go with the "Channel" moniker was a 100% local decision. No fancy suits came swooping in and crafted the product. I did. Did I get help? Yup...but only because I was a one-man army at the time, had an entire station to create, and sought the advice of people I trusted and respected.Any combination of musical lean and station moniker is purely coincidental.
